External mics just dont work well with the Micro BR, you are better off using the on board one. An electret is a condenser mic but as always, they run high in price...and the cheap ones out there are not worth spending on.

The Toneport GX is a nice little interface for the price and now that its on sale everywhere I would have to say its a good buy. The interface will bypass your sound card giving better results in quality and is also designed to work with your guitar directly plugged into it. For vocals you need either an XLR to TRS cable or an adapter that will turn any XLR mic cord into a TRS connection at the end.

Don't get an XLR to TS connection...these are missing that final contact point at the phono end and will cause many problems.
