Well... I've got nothing better to do, and I feel like talking about guitar gear. I think I've got what I want my rig to look like mapped out. I want a pedal setup that can accomodate my Floydian needs as well as more rock/blues rock stuff (Cream/Hendrix, etc.) stuff and clean blues/jazzy tones (BB King/John Mayer kinds of sounds). Here's what my pedal chain will hopefully look like in the not too far off future. I've got the pedals I already have in bold, and there are little asterisks too. Check after the chain for info on them.
Fuzz Face clone* Vox Wah** MXR Dyna Comp Digitech Bad Monkey Sovtek Big Muff (green early 90s model) BBE Soul Vibe Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Electric Mistress*** MXR Carbon Copy delay
*- Bostonrocks is making me a straight clone of an original BC109 Fuzz Face. I've got the money for it, I'm just waiting for him to get the transistors and build it. **-Hopefully I can get rid of my Zakk Wylde wah (great wah, just a bit too strong for my current needs) and end up with one of these. I'd like just a regular one that I can mod a bit to improve. I'd really like to learn some mods. ***- I may send mine out to Howard Davis for some modding. If I do, I'll have him fix the volume drop (which doesn't bother me currently as it's very minor, but I figure it's worth doing) and mod it back to the original version's specs. This thing sounds awesome as it is, and people seem to really cling to the original despite the big volume drop, so I can't even imagine how good it'll be after I get it back.
But yeah, I really want a UniVibe pedal, and the Soul Vibe seems like a great one for the money. I don't want to spend $300+ for the ones that are the "best", because I really don't hear a ton of difference. And of course I'll need a delay, and I fell in love with the Carbon Copy the first time I saw a picture of it. I definitely want one of these sparkly green space machines (I'm a poet!). They seem like a good priced analog delay ($400 for a T-Rex Replica ) that'll suit me perfectly.
This rig will pretty much get me a good sound for any era of Pink Floyd/David Gilmour, as well as be great for the other sounds I love. There may be room for a chorus or phaser, but I really don't think I need them a lot. I like the sounds of the vibe and flange more anyway.
This brings me to the amp! Well... I'll have to get off my ass and get a job, but I have made a promise to myself to get a Silverface Twin Reverb (late 60s/early 70s), for the best clean tones ever (3 dirt pedals will cover all the gain I need!) and excellent reverb and vibrato. I really want the best clean amp I can get for Floyd stuff (without selling my house to get a Hiwatt), and I'd like a great clean, reverbed amp for blues. The Twin seems perfect.
As for my guitar, I love my Strat and the only mods I see for it are finally putting new pickups in the neck and middle positions (I already have a gold Lace Power Sensor in the bridge). I'll be putting a regular gold Lace in the neck position and a light blue Lace (P-90) in the middle for extra versitility/bluesy-ness (since I hardly use my middle position right now, I figure it'd be good to try something different with it).
Well, if you read that you're probably more bored than I am!! I'll stop now, because I could go on for days about this junk. I really can't wait to have all this stuff. I like my sound now, but this is exactly what I want.
I think I'm going to try to get my mom to buy me the Soul Vibe as a graduation present (jeeze, I graduate at the end of this month!)... even though I really doubt she'll do it, haha.
