I'm 17, I began taking piano lessons in the fourth grade and kept with them for about a year. I had absolutely no contact with the musical world until the Christmas of 2006 when my parents bought me a Peavey Millenium BXP 5-String Bass and a small 15 Watt Crate amp.
I started with bass lessons, actually learning theory instead of just learning to play songs and also stayed with those for around a year. About six months into the lesson however I started wanting to learn to play the guitar, and I ordered my first. A black and white Fender Squier Strat, and a 15 Watt Fender Frontman amp.
I kept playing and learning and I've come a long way, now playing a 2002 Gibson Les Paul Special through a 60 Watt Kustom amp, and frequently visiting the forums to expand my knowledge now that I've quit taking lessons.
