I hope that helps a bit. So all in all its passible but the guitar and pickups and even tubes can make a huge difference overall to getting a 60s-70s rock tone out of it. I would say it goes better with mid to late 70s and to early 90s for classic rock (if you count early 90s in the slightest bit classic...hehe)... and as if it wasnt obvious it can do metal... but thats not what i use it for overall. But best thing i can say for getting a cleaner older more classic rock sound out of it is a tube change. A 5751 in V1 cleans it up nicely, and adds a little bit of warmth. but yes overall i feel it can handle 70s rock nicely. 60s is the iffy one. Good Luck, you should definatly try one if you get the chance.

Hey there! Nice sounding amp, im really considering the 6505+ head myself. How do you like it? I read your a big classic rock fan, how does it handle for like 60s and 70s rock?

Well the most I play from 60s and 70s would be stuff by the Who. And if you have a hot passive pickup then you can put it on the rhythm channel and take the crunch off and get a nice lowgain crunch from the power tubes particularly the more you crank it. With a lower gain pickup with the crunch on you can get a higher gain variant of the first example. Example 1 would sound like the guitar gain level in the whos wont get fooled again or the distorted part of behind blue eyes. While Example 2 is more like the guitar gain level in carry on my wayward son by kansas.

i would use a spider for pratice amp but never for a gig, dont like onboard effects and amp modeling, nothing like a tube amp

thank god. finally someone who appreciates a spider amp. they're actually pretty good. i read one of your posts about it and you speak the truth, and that's why i'm requesting you. we should try to make a move against all of this spider hate.
