as for the carvin, with the right pups it sounds really good. both blackouts and EMGs didnt sound all that great through it. so far the only pickup that sounds absolutely amazing through it is the PRS tremonti bridge pup in my schecter c-1 classic. the high gain sounds can be a bit harsh and digital sounding, basically lacking warmth. adding an overdrive pedal in front of the amp really helps things, but eventually i think im going to replace the preamp tubes. everywhere ive read about these, people say the stock tubes are crap. most likely, im not good at properly dialing in this amp, but it hasnt met my expectations so far. it is cool having 3 channels and 2 different fx loops, though i get a horrid buzz when i have anything plugged in the loops. a local tech thinks it could be one or more of my power tubes going bad. hope its not a common problem with this amp.

you asked about my agile and the carvin v3.

well, the agile is a pretty damn good guitar even though i believe its chinese made. you can buy them from rondomusic.com and most of their models arent very expensive at all. the build quality is pretty good and the stock pickups are more than adequate, which is good considering the limited 8 string pup upgrades available! mine has a longer scale length of 28 5/8" which definitely takes some getting used to, and the nut width is a little bit wider than a normal electric. theres a schecter 8 string at my local store and my agiles nut width is definitely wider than that. i see you're in australia so id recommend going used. folks buying from outside the US are taking a big risk since rondo doesnt really have an international return policy. agiles have been known to show up at peoples doors with some flaws. there are always used agile 8s on the market so id recommend that.
