Another year is about to start in about 6 hours and my goal for 2010 is to continue with my guitar lessons with my teacher and actually start recording some songs. I've been trying to learn on my own since the start of 2009 and well its just hard for me and having the teacher for that extra push is helping me a lot. I've been doing lessons for about a month now and my goal is to finish in November 2010.
I broke my first string on my guitar So I went to Guitar Center and got a pack of Dunlop 10 guage 10-46 strings to put on my Warbeast and also got string clippers with a winder. Got home and tried to change my strings... broke two strings DAMNIT So the next day went BACK to guitar center and bought 3 packs this time. When I got home jumped on youtube to find a good video on changing strings.
AH HA! I didn't have enough slack... so I got it right this time and got the guitar all tuned and ready to jam again. I learned a lesson tho and now know how to change my strings the right now. But it was so aggrovating to do.
Here recently i've been listening to Killswitch Engaged. If you haven't heard of them or took the time to listen to them I highly recommend you do it! I never really put in the time to really listen to them and now i'm loving their music. I like this new singer better the the other singer they had before.
I'm slowly getting the hang of this guitar thing! I signed up on jamplay.com and i've already learned a bunch off the first few videos. I know it's going to take time but if I had a magic wand I would want to make my self the next great guitar player. I don't have a magic wand so thats not going to be happening any time soon but like with anything if you take your time and enjoy it, the progress will show for it. I can't play any songs on the guitar yet but thats ok.. i'm learning my chords and notes on the neck. Once I get that down I will move forward. You got to have a foundation first and from i've read and read thats the best foundation to start on. I want to know my notes so I'm not a connect the dots kind of player... not saying thats bad or anything but I believe the more understanding you have the better you will be at what ever it is your trying to do.
My dad and I use to play guitar but hell I was like 6 or 7 years old and I don't remember hardly anything at all. But I believe I've influenced my dad to pick up his guitar again. Well he sold his guitar but this weekend he went out and bought a new one. I was very excited for him to get one but mostly excited in the fact I have someone that can help push me a long and encourage me to keep going. My wife does a wonderful job doing it but with my father getting a guitar its like history all over again if that makes any sense. Here is my fathers gear.
So far im having a blast playing guitar. I'm working on learning my chords ect.. and guitartricks is helping me a great deal. I highly recommend the site and also this guys youtube channel is awesome.
I highly recommend his videos for free lessons. I'm trying to learn gallop picking which is tough for the moment but like with anything the more you practice the easier it becomes.
I'm hoping to get some Christmas money this year so I can pick up some tab books, or some learning dvds.. anyone got some recommendations?
Tomorrow is Christmas Eve so ill be with my family most of the day
I'm very excited to get my warbeast friday. When I was at Guitar Center today I decided to play around with the warbeast and I'm very happy with my choice. I took the chance when I ordered my warbeast online a few days ago from Guitar Center online before actually trying it out. Yes risky I know but I trusted the reviews and the hype. After today i'm totally happy and can't wait!
