RG_FANMAN wrote on Oct 16th, 2009 9:41pmsweet, much appreciated. I've only got my acoustic with me since I didn't know how strict my dorm's RAs were going to be about noise, but my floor has like 3 or 4 guitarists, two of which have amps, so I think I may bring my Jaguar and effects back to my dorm after thanksgiving or christmas break. quote |

RG_FANMAN wrote on Oct 11th, 2009 5:22pmyea the younger guy just said he should use them more and didn't really say anything bad, but the older guy was the one gave me crap. I figured I'd run my encounter by you in case this had happened before. Thanks. quote |
RG_FANMAN wrote on Oct 11th, 2009 2:52ama younger guy and an older guy who was half bald with a black mustache. I thought it was weird too since when I went there in June there was an older guy with gray hair and a beard that had a chat with me about the old Les Pauls they had and a recently acquired Bassman 4x10. quote |
RG_FANMAN wrote on Oct 10th, 2009 9:21pmYou've been to West Chester music before, right? I went in there yesterday to get a capo and when I asked their opinions on them since I'm not knowledgeable about them the two guys working there starting giving me crap about how using a Capo is the easy way out since it's like you're always playing in E and the one guy there said he didn't use a capo because he liked "being proficient." This is really discouraging since when I went in there in June they seemed cool, but yesterday they came off as dicks. quote |

No, still trying to decide. I think I might splurge in a bit. I'll shoot you a new tube day thread when I get um!

i wouldnt say the tubes that i put in clean up the grit....i felt they were more "fat" and lush compared to the pre-swap gain. if you dont want the extra clean headroom, and a tad bit more gain then stick with 12AX7's, although NOS 12AX7's are a shit-ton, unless you get a steal off of ebay. |
Alright. Thanks for your help. Hopefully I can have these soon. I will think about it quite a bit before I order. Did you get them from TubeDepot?

the 5751/12AT7 should last a couple of years, and the EL84's at least a year and a half, unless you play everyday for a couple of hours and loud.
so yeah, why the hell not, right? |
Any suggestions for preamps that won't clean it up as much. Cause I love the shear gritty-ness of the Tiny Terror.

i would highly, highly recommend those tubes, very worth it. they added a good bit of headroom, and very mids-warm. the bass was noticeably tighter/defined, and the highs just rolled off. i would say it is a great improvement on that below-par lacking cleans the TT is known for. Also, the gain is still there, and the added frequencies on the cleans are still kept during with the overdriven tones.
again, i would highly recommend the tubes, and i would imagine it would sound better through a 4x12 instead of the 1x12 combo. |
Sweet. I might have to order them, even though $65 seems like a lot to me. Grandma gave me $75 for Easter anyways, and I have some $400 sitting in an account. What the hell, why not right?

its a good pairing. if you keep the cleans to right-around-break up and kick in the muff, it sounds amazing. and i got to crank it up with my NOS mullard and NOS JAN 12AT7/5751, and it sounded warm, lush, and really harmonic. |
Speaking of those tubes, how do you like um, and would you recommend them? The stock tubes are all right, but what kind of improvements, (if any) did you see with those tubes. I don't know if I wanna spend the $65 for the 4 tubes though. I might go with cheaper pre-amps. I need to go post in the tube thread....
Cheers,

it was buzzy (especially the effects loop), and all of the features that made it "special" were rather gimmicky. I just didn't find it worth the money.

I could see how that would be a problem. It was just another piece of poo that entered and exited my stable.
