So I was going over the things I have learned on bass. And how far I have come on bass. I learned a lot of songs and few "advanced techniques" of course simple slaps and pops, tapping, pinch harmonics, and and few scales. I love playing bass. I love everything about it. I would easily recomend this to anyone. Anyway, bass is great. The amazing bassists I have found and inspired me like Victor Wooten, John Entwistle, Geezer Butler, John Myung, Cliff Burton., and the list goes on. Bass may seem simple but its not. Its a great challenge and I love it. I play it more than I play my 6 string pos. I still play guitar just not as much. Im to busy learning Schism from Tool, Carousel from Blink-182, For Whom The Bell Tolls, My Friend of Misery, actually a bunch of Metallica songs, sure the song may look simple but try it and you will find its not as easy as you think, for example NIB from Black Sabbath starts out simple but soon gets to be quite complex. but its fun nonetheless. If you play guitar make the switch if only for a day. You will love it. I play it for my band at school but didnt mean to get hooked on it. Its just very fun. Just try it. Bass rules. Plain and simple.
Being that I am a bassist aswell as a guitarist theres the people that say one is easier than the other. As if I switched from one to the other because its easy, that is not the case. Supposebly bass is easier than guitar its really not. Bass gets really complex at times. It gets really complex while playing the basslines to songs like Hysteria from Muse or YYZ from Rush or even Schism from Tool, Schism is a very easy song but its one of the few times that that bass sets the pace for most of the song. Maintaining a steady pace while playing bass is very important. Without the bass you do not have anything in the background or anything in most cases to back up the guitarist. People actually forget that bass exists in a band and gives all credit to the guitarist. A prime example of this is Ramble On from Led Zeppelin, John Paul Jones played a amazing bassline but all credit goes to Jimmy Page and Robert Plant. If you listen to Ramble On then you will notice that its pretty much all about the bass yet Jones receives no credit. The point of this blog is to try and help people realize that being a bassist is not always easy. Yes a lot of songs for bass are simple but dont forget that without the bass something is missing from the song. Think of your favorite song and listen for the bass, get to know what the bass sounds like, then imagine what the song would sound like without bass. Without the bass the song completly changes. It changes because the bass lays the foundation to any song. The drums and bass maintain the structure of the song.
So the next time you think bass is easy or not needed please remeber this blog and you will see just how important bass really is.
Thank you.
I have posted some songs, they are made of covers and some originals. I think you will enjoy them. So please listen to them, rate them, and tell me whats missing.
Thank you.
Why is'nt there a Satch Fest, Joe could have all kinds of special guests like; Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, Mountain, and Paul Gilbert plus others. I think it would be an excellent idea, it would be like G3 times one million. Anyway these are just my thoughts about why and how one of my favorite guitarists (JOe Satriani) should have his own "fest". Thanks for reading.
It has come to my knowledge that there are new robot guitars being made. The guitars themselves are revoultionary, but highly exspensive and difficult to repair. I would be a liar i I said I do not want one. Thet are amazing, I mean they tune themselves, how awesome is that? Now there is even a SG model. So in the future there may even be Flying V robot guitars, would'nt that be cool.
I have seen the new robot guitars and they seem pretty awesome. Last night on G4 TV on the show Attack Of The Show Kevin was reviewing the guitar and gave it a 92%. I was wandering what a guitar was doing with a mostly technology related show, then i realized it was a robot guitar, they showed it tune itself and everything, it was pretty cool. Anyway to get back to the point there is a new SG model and it looks pretty tight, its mostly just a purple SG but knowing its a robot guitar makes all the differance.
