Zatsu turned and playfully punched
Riku’s right arm, “Yeah, a twin that doesn’t know how to sneak up on people
anymore.” he laughed.
Riku stood there for a moment and
smiled. “Well, introduce me to your new friend, you rude-ass.” he chuckled.
“Oh.” Zatsu said quickly, “Riku,
this is Sierra Dawn. Sierra, this is my twin brother, Riku.”
The two of them shook hands.
“Well, I’m going to go get some
lunch,” said Sierra, “You guys coming?”
“We don’t usually eat at school,”
Riku said to Sierra.
“I’ll go wait for you when you get
out of the line.” Zatsu offered.
Riku looked awkwardly at Zatsu,
“Okay. I might as well stick with you.”
They walked Sierra to the start of
the lunch line and waited next to the cafeteria exit.
A couple of guys walked by and
looked at Riku and Zatsu, “Oh, shit. That’s them! The Mayonak–”
“Get lost.” Zatsu said, sternly.
The two boys quickened their pace
After they left Riku’s face turned
to worry, “Shit!”
“I know.” Zatsu said, seriously,
“Let’s just wait this out and see what happens.”
Sierra showed up while they were
distracted by the two boys, “Who died?” she asked, jokingly.
Zatsu snapped out of his stressful
stupor, “Oh, you’re back. Let’s go.” Zatsu started walking away and Riku soon
“Well, that wasn’t weird at all…”
Sierra muttered under her breath. She then followed Riku and Zatsu, walking
away from the cafeteria.
The last period of the day.
Zatsu sat waiting in his chemistry
class, counting away the seconds on the clock at the front of the class. The
last few minutes dragged on forever.
on. Zatsu thought to himself, I need
to get the hell out of here!
Then the bell rang, trumpeting the
sweet sound of freedom.
Zatsu rushed and was the first out
of his class. He found his way out to the front of the school and waited for
Riku to show up.
When he finally arrived he handed
his stuff to Zatsu. “Can you watch this for me while I go to the bathroom real
quick? I swear I won’t be long.” He then jogged off leaving Zatsu to wait for
him once again.
About ten seconds later a familiar
face passed Zatsu. The boy turned back and stood in front of Zatsu.
“Oh. It’s you again,” the boy said.
After hearing him speak Zatsu
instantly recognized why he seemed familiar, it was the boy from his English
class. Zatsu was always good at putting up a tough front but somewhere deep in
his subconscious something began to happen that hadn’t happened in a long time:
Zatsu began to panic.
“Look, leave me alone. I don’t want
any trouble.” Zatsu said, passively.
The boy laughed, “It was too late
for that when you interrupted me in class.” He took a step towards Zatsu, “You
may not want trouble, but trouble has found you.”
Zatsu stood his ground, “Back off,
now, or you just might get hurt.”
“Oh, I’d love to see that,” the boy
said in a cocky tone.
Zatsu was beginning to get
impatient, “Just go on home.”
“Not until we settle our little
Zatsu started slipping,
“Situation?” he stepped forward, “The only situation I have here is a rude
asshole that refuses to get out of my face.”
A crowd was starting to gather.
The boy looked like he’d been
slapped in the face. “Asshole?”
They were practically nose to nose
now, “Yeah,” Zatsu grinned, “What else do you call a guy that has to pick on a
girl just to feel like a man?”
The boy had had enough. He stepped
back and slammed a fist into Zatsu’s face.
There was a collective gasp from
Zatsu stood there, quietly, for a
moment. He then brought up his right hand and put his index finger behind his
lower lip. When he pulled it out it was covered in blood. “Oh, I’m sorry. Did
you just hit me?” he said, sarcastically, “I hadn’t noticed… Let me show you
what a real punch is!” he said and lunged toward the boy, fist raised.
“Zatsu, no!” Riku rushed through
the crowd and got Zatsu in a half nelson to keep him from hitting the boy.
Zatsu struggled against Riku's
A look of fear spread across the
boy's face. Then the fear soon changed to amusement, “Zatsuyou? Zatsuyou Mayonaka?”
he busted into laughter, “You're the fighter, Zatsuou Mayonaka?” he pointed to
Zatsu, “You're a joke!”
Zatsu snapped. He started
struggling even more.
“Zatsu! Stop! He's not worth it!”
he continued to struggle, “Don't you remember what happened last time?”
Zatsu went still and began to
tremble. He then pointed at the boy, “You have no idea how fucking lucky you
are.” He scooped up his belongings and walked away quickly, ignoring the boy.
“That’s right, run away little
bitch!” the boy said.
There was an eruption waiting to
burst forth from Zatsu, but he maintained his course and continued to ignore
Riku soon began to follow Zatsu.
“That must make you Riku, right?”
the boy said.
Riku stopped and looked back at the
boy, pure loathing in his eyes, “Just leave us alone, you dick.” He turned back
around and continued after his brother.
Riku jogged to catch up with Zatsu.
“You know I had no choice, Zatsu. You know we can’t afford to get kicked out of
this school.” He looked down at the sidewalk, “I swear… sometimes this
reputation is like a curse. From one school to the next, year after year. I’m
so fuckin’ glad that this is our last year of high school.”
Zatsu stayed quiet.
“I hope you’re not mad at me for
that. I was just trying to protect you. Kenji was one thing, you lost control.
We were only eight so nothing happened, but we’re almost adults now.” Riku
said, sincerely. “I’m not losing you over something so stupid.”
Zatsu flinched at the mention of
that name. It is stupid, he thought
to himself, but I can’t help it.
They reached a crosswalk and waited
for the light to change. Zatsu began pushing the button to cross, repeatedly;
every push stronger than the one before it. The light was still red. He began
to get impatient, and Riku was beginning to look worried. Then Zatsu lost his
temper, “Fucking change!!” he slammed his fist into the button. The pole dented
inward and the button shot out of the back.
The light finally changed and Zatsu
began storming across the street. Riku stared in shock at the pole, then at the
button on the floor. He picked it up and looked at the imprint of Zatsu’s fist,
“What the…?” he then looked up and saw the light was changing and he quickly
sprinted across the street after his brother.
They soon arrived home and Riku
went to their room still holding the twisted chunk of metal that used to be a
button. “How did he…? What the hell?” he turned the metal in his hands. He
still couldn’t believe what he saw.
Zatsuyou came to their room to drop off his school bag. He then left the room and headed
for the garage before Riku could say anything.
As soon as he entered he turned on
the light and headed for the weight bench. He picked up the dumbbell in the
rack with one hand to test the weight. He looked at the weights on both sides
and tallied it up in his head, 60 on one
side and another 60 on the other, he thought to himself, with a 45 pound bar that totals out to... 165 pounds?! He put it down quickly,
surprised at his strength. Then thought for a moment, It felt too light...
He walked over to a weight rack and
added a 50 pound weight to each side and lied down on the bench. He took a deep
breath, counted to three and lifted the weight. It felt surprisingly light in
his hands. He put down the bar and looked at his hands, “How...?”
He got up and walked over to the
rack once again and stopped. He looked from the bench to the weight rack, “I
About a minute later he succeeded
in putting all of the remaining weights on the bar. He lied down again and
stared at the bar, “That should be about 465 pounds...” he gripped the bar
tightly, took a deep breath, closed his eyes and counted to three... then
pushed with everything he had.
The bar almost flew out of his
hands. He was shocked... too shocked. His grip faltered and the weight came
down, right towards his face. He slipped out from under the weight at the last
second; the weight collided with the bench and dented it. “Oh, fuck!” Zatsu
said out loud. He stared at the dumbbell and the now dented bench completely
After a while his bewilderment
turned into rage, “Why wasn't it heavy enough?!” He quickly got up off the
bench. His whole body felt like it was throbbing, “What's happening to me?!” he
ran to a nearby punching bag hanging from the ceiling and kicked it with all
his strength. The chains attaching the bag to the ceiling snapped and the bag
flew and hit the wall. The side of the bag split open and sand spilled all over
the floor. Every muscle in Zatsu's body tensed and he roared with rage. He
noticed his reflection in a nearby mirror. The immense anger blurred his
vision, it seemed as though his body was shrouded in some kind of aura. He took
a step toward the mirror and fell over weakened, then went unconscious.
The darkness had a firm hold of the
room with the exception of some ambient sunlight creeping through the cracks of
the blinds. The light falls upon the cheek of a seventeen year old boy lying in
bed. An alarm fills the room as the clock begins to display the time The boy opens his blue eyes to the
sunlight and quickly closes them, “Ah! I hate waking up to a blinding light.”
He turns off the alarm then rises from his bed and stretches thoroughly. He
walked over to the light switch and turned it on to see his twin brother
“Couldn’t you spare me the
blindness?” his twin said as he sat up rubbing his eyes.
“Oh, come on, you had it easy.” he
said, “At least you didn’t have to wake up with the sun in your eyes.” He started
to walk toward the bedroom door, “Get up. We start today, remember?”
The twin blinked a few times as he
continued to adjust to the light. He ran a hand through his short hair, “Oh,
yeah. I almost forgot.” He got up off his bed and walked to the closet.
The boy looked back, “I’m going to
go take a shower,” he said as he opened the door, “Can you get my clothes ready
while I’m in there?”
“Sure.” the twin said, “But only
because it’ll save time and I don’t want to be late.” he added quickly. The boy
turned to leave, “Don’t take long because I’m next!”
Ten minutes later the boy got out of the shower and drew a
large “M” into the fog of the bathroom mirror. M, he thought to himself,
M for Mayonaka. He then wiped away the rest of the fog with his hand and
looked at himself in the mirror. His long dark hair was dripping wet. He
inspected his body, starting with his muscular legs moving up past his
mid-section to his defined upper body. He stared into his own eyes. Blue
eyes must be an extremely rare characteristic to people that are even part
Japanese, he thought to himself, I wonder why Riku and I have them.
This was a question that was often
on the mind of Zatsuyou Mayonaka. He has always had many questions about his
heritage; questions that would most likely never be answered for the fact that
he was orphaned at an early age. With no parents to give answers, how was he to
know who he truly was? But, for now, these questions must wait… he has to get
He dried off and wrapped a towel
around his waist then returned to his room to see his twin leaving.
“It’s about damn time, Zats.” he
said as he passed.
Zatsuyou ignored him and entered
his room. He closed the door and took off his towel. He then walked over to his
bed to see a black button-up shirt, a pair of dark green cargo pants, and a
pair of boxers lying in wait for him. He dressed quickly, grabbed his stuff and
waited for his twin to get out and get ready.
The twin entered the room with a
towel wrapped around his waist. “It’s about damn time, Riku!” Zatsu said,
When Riku finished getting ready
they headed for the front door. They saw Derek, Mike, and Jake as they were
“Have a good day at school you
guys!” Derek said as they all left.
Zatsuyou, Riku, Mike, and Jake walked through the cool air.
The morning was surprisingly chilly for summer. Mike and Jake were wearing
sweaters but Riku and Zatsu weren’t fazed by the morning chill. “How can you
two take this cold? You’re inhuman!” Mike said jokingly and they all laughed.
ways at the next crosswalk and Riku and Zatsu began walking to their school.
“What do you think of today, Riku?”
he said calmly.
know. It’s just another first day of school is all. I guess I’m a little
excited, but…” he paused and thought for a moment, “You don’t think we’ll end
up in a fight today, do you Zatsu?”
Zatsu sighed, “Well, this is
a transfer from our old school so as long as our reputation hasn’t beat us here
I think we should be okay. Even still I don’t think we should let our guard down,
okay little bro?”
Riku stopped and glared at his
brother defiantly, “Hey! Just because you were born two minutes before me it
doesn’t mean you have to call me ‘little bro’!”
Zatsu laughed, “I was just messing
with you. Relax.” He put his arms around his brother’s shoulders and patted him
on the back as the front of their new school came into view.
“Alright… 4th period.” Zatsu said as he looked
down at his new schedule. “I’ve got English in room 302 with… Smith? God, what
a boring name.”
Zatsu left his 3rd
period class and turned left down a hallway until he saw a breeze-way to his
left. He walked through the breeze-way and saw a room marked “302” to his left
at the end.
He entered the classroom and sat
down at a nearby desk next to a boy he didn’t know. About a minute later a girl
entered the room. She wore dark clothing and dark make up. It wasn’t too hard
to make her out as a Goth.
Zatsu was intrigued by her. She
doesn’t seem to look like a prep, he thought to himself, not to me
anyways… but that’s good: most preps are annoying. He chuckled under his
breath as the girl sat in front of him. “Hello.” She glanced over her shoulder,
then turned around and stayed quiet.
The boy sitting next to Zatsu spoke
to the girl, “Well, look what we have here.” he said, “The freak has entered
Zatsu waited in silence for the
girl to respond. “Leave her alone.” he said to the boy.
The boy stared at Zatsu, “Was I
talking to you?”
“Well, then mind your own
business.” he said.
Now Zatsu was getting frustrated,
he gripped the edge of his desk and felt the wood crack slightly. “I said,
‘Leave her alone.’”
“Who the fuck are you to tell me
what to do?” the boy said to Zatsu.
His eyes narrowed with a piercing
intensity, “I’ll tell you one thing: I’m not one to be an innocent by-stander,”
he said sternly, “and I hate it when people like you pick on people like her
because they won’t defend themselves.”
The girl shifted uncomfortably in
The boy glared at Zatsu, then
looked at the girl, “Don’t worry, I’ll see you later.” He then grabbed his
stuff and moved across the room.
Zatsu and the girl both sat quietly
for a moment until she broke the silence.
“Thanks for that,” she said
“It was nothing, I hate people like
him. Bullies really piss me off.” he said to her, “I’m Zatsu, by the way.
The girl turned and faced Zatsu,
“I’m Sierra Dawn.” she said with her hand out.
Zatsu shook her hand, “That’s a
pretty name. Nice to meet you Sierra.” she blushed slightly, “You know what?
Give me a shout if that guy ever bothers you again.”
Her face lit up in surprise,
“Really?!” Zatsu nodded, “Wow, thanks.”
He smiled, “Nice necklace, by the
way.” he said.
She clutched the pentacle pendant
hanging around her neck, “I’m not a Satanist.” she said, quickly.
Zatsu was taken aback. “I never
said that.” he said laughing, “I know what that means and it has nothing to do
with the devil. That’s the pentacle. It stands for the four elements, earth,
air, fire, and water, and the Spirit. It’s a Wiccan religious symbol.” Sierra
looked surprised. “I do a lot of reading.” he said with a chuckle.
“Well,” she said in a relaxed
manner, “it’s nice to finally meet someone that isn’t a close-minded, ignorant
Zatsu thought for a moment, “Do you
have any friends?”
She sighed, “None that go to this
school. My dad recently passed away and my mom and I moved here to get away
from our old home. Ever since his passing I couldn’t turn a corner in that
house without remembering his face. It was too difficult to stay there.”
“I’m sorry to hear that.” he said,
She half-smiled and looked up at
him, “Its okay.” she said solemnly, “I mean, we all have to go sometime,
Zatsu looked at the floor and
remembered his mother’s face, “Yeah, I guess so.”
They both faced forward to find
that the teacher was staring at them with an impatient look on his face. They
soon realized that class had started while they were buried in conversation.
“Well, now that you two are done talking I do believe we can start class, but
with your permission of course.” Mr. Smith said sternly.
Zatsu could hear the boy from
earlier chuckling on the other side of the room.
With a quick nod the teacher began
his introduction to the English class.
The bell rang, signaling the end of 4th period
and the beginning of lunch. The students in Mr. Smith’s class began to stand
and file out of the room.
“Don’t forget. For homework you
have to write a short, one page essay about yourself. Standard format: three
paragraphs.” he said, quickly, but the majority of the students ignored him,
“I’ll see you all tomorrow.”
Zatsu and Sierra were the last two
students in the class.
“So, do you want to hang out for
lunch?” Sierra said, hopefully.
“Sure, why not?” replied Zatsu. “I
have to meet my brother, though.”
They began walking towards the
door. “Oh, you have a brother that goes here?” said Sierra, “That’s cool. I
have an older sister, but she doesn’t live here.”
“Ah, how come?” asked Zatsu.
“Well, she went off to college.
Some fancy place back east close to where we used to live.” she looked down,
“It’s been so long since we’ve talked that I don’t even remember what she’s
Riku snuck up on Zatsu and grabbed
him by the shoulders, “Hey, Zats!” Riku said loudly, startling Sierra, “Make a
new friend already?”
“You do realize that you’re too
damn loud, right?” Zatsu said with a chuckle.
Sierra turned and looked at Riku,
then to Zatsu, and back to Riku. She did a double take and shook her head, “You
didn’t mention that he was your twin.”
Just a couple updates with my life: _kiss of death_ and I split up again. I kinda saw it coming so it didn't really hit me hard this time. So, I guess I'm single again.
And just in case I never mentioned this before my cousin Cyrus (the burn victim) was released from the hospital last year and has made a full recovery. He's living in Arizona now and is running and playing just like any other kid his age.
A naked body lies still in a park clearing. The only motion coming from it are the breathing patterns closely associated with a deep sleep. It is the body of a man: long hair, thin frame, a slightly muscular build. The night breeze gives a relentless chill and the nude figure awakens with a start, sitting bolt upright in an instant. In a panic his pale yellow eyes scan the immediate area. “Where the hell am I…?” he tries to stand but his body can’t seem to take it, he quickly falls back to the floor. “I feel so… weak.” He props himself up on all fours breathing heavily. “Looks like I need to change…”
It’s just another day of the same routine. The hulking figure of a man walked through the park. He was heading to his favorite bar to see if he could find a girl to take home for the night. He had an itch that just couldn’t be scratched alone…
The park seemed the same as the last time he walked through but he couldn’t help the strange feeling that he was being watched. It’s just a bad trip, he told himself. He checked the inside pocket of his coat to check if the dime bag of marijuana was still there. A little something to ease the comedown. He figured the cocaine in his system was most likely messing with his head. So he wasn’t entirely surprised when he looked up into a tree and saw two yellow eyes staring back at him. “What the…?” In an instant a giant black figure launched out of the tree and tackled the man to the floor clamping its jaws around the man’s throat, cutting of his air supply. He struggled for a while burning what was left of the oxygen still in his blood. Before long he would be dead. His struggles ceased and his life came to a close.
The panther tore open the man’s throat just for good measure. His blood pooled around the immediate area. The panther began feasting on the man’s flesh. With every mouthful it seemed to grow stronger.
When it finished consuming what it could eat it laid down then seemed to come to a realization, Wait… I don’t even know where I am, it stood on all fours and stretched, I can’t rest now. I need to get out of here and look for home. It thought for a second and stared at the body before it, I might want some thing to wear just in case… It looked to see if anyone was around, then the panther morphed its shape until the man with dark hair was in its place. He quickly removed the coat from the corpse on the floor and put it on. It was much too big for him, but it would have to do for now. After he adjusted to his new article of clothing he fled into the shadows of the night.
The title of this blog really speaks for itself. Since the start of the second semester here at school (around late January) I've read 16 books at a total of around 4,000 pages. The books were: Imajica from Clive Barker, Angels and Demons, The Da Vinci Code, and The Lost Symbol from Dan Brown, and the entire Cirque du Freak book series (1-12) from Darren Shan.
Along with the random news of my reading choices I also have some news for the fans of my story. Since I've started reading so much I've sharpened up immensely on my writing skills and started typing out my story from the beginning in my computer class in my spare time. My next blog is a new beginning to my story. It's a very short chapter (around a page) but I think it might be somewhat enjoyable. I'm working on the second now and am about... maybe 1/3 of the way finished with it. As soon as I finish the next chapter I'll post it.
And, by the way, I think I finally came up with a name for the story: Midnight.
Just for laughs. I'm curious as to how many people know my real name on here besides kr46 and my girlfriend. (by the way me and _kiss of death_ are back together) And don't cheat by asking either one of them!
This is not an option... this man is a friend of mine and an amazing guitarist and I just HAD to post this blog in his honor after he tipped the scales on the awesometer by doing a cover of one my favorite songs... Creep from Radiohead.
It's been a while since I've posted a story excerpt and I apologize for the long wait. I hit a MAJOR case of writers block and I can't seem to find my out so I'm going to bull-shit my way through this one. Hell, it worked last time. Wish me luck!
This is continuing from when Riku and Zatsu were walking up the steps of the school.
"Alright... 4th period. I've got math in room 302 with... Smith? God, how boring..." Zatsu turned the corner and saw his next class. He walked through the door and made his way to the second to last row of chairs. He sat down as a girl dressed in all black walked through the door. She was wearing dark make-up and there was a pentacle pendant hanging around her neck. She had dark hair and light green eyes. "She doesn't look like a prep," Zatsu thought to himself,"That's good though... Preps are annoying." This time he spoke,"Um... hi." She simply stayed quiet. The boy sitting next to Zatsu spoke to the girl,"Hey, freak." She stayed quiet... and since she didn't defend herself-"Shut up, asshole."-Zatsu retaliated in her place. The boy was startled,"Who the fuck are you?" Zatsu chuckled,"I'm not one to be an innocent by-stander, I'll tell you that." he leaned in closer to the boy,"and I don't like it when people pick on others that don't defend themselves." The boy looked around and saw the teacher and got up from his chair,"Don't worry, I'll get you both later..." After the boy left Zatsu chuckled,"Good luck with that..." The boy sat in a chair on the other end of the room. "Thanks for sticking up for me," the girl said to Zatsu, "That dickhead is always bothering me." Zatsu patted her on the shoulder,"No problem..." she blushed. "My name is Zatsu by the way." he said. "Oh, I'm Sierra (Thanks for the idea kr46) Dawn." she replied then turned with her hand out. Zatsu shook her hand,"That's a pretty name..." she blushed again... Then the bell rang for the start of the period and the teacher spoke "Good morning class!"
Hope that's alright. Half of it was improvising on the spot... Lol.
