Formerly Known is about to be again

Well, we finalized our line up last night with the addition of Trent on vocals (thank god I dont have to sing anymore). Also, we have a show on May 7th at Sherlocks in Erie, supporting our friends Matty B. and the Dirty Pickles.

Even Better, we are going to begin recording some songs for a demo in the next week or two. Although, ironicly, one of these songs will be Sin, which I swore I was done with the last time I recorded it, never say never I guess.

First Blog-worthy event EVER!

Current mood: excited

Ok, it's finally happened, a reason that i can write a blog other than shear boredom. So I was working on a mid 1980's guitar that belongs to my girlfriend's brother that had been abused for the better part of a decade (left in a garage for years ect.). For those who didn’t know that I do Tech/modification/restoration you do now, although the fact that I have a 1950’s-esque jag. Bass should have given that away (found in a dumpster by a friend in two pieces, but different story entirely). Any who, the electronics were of course fried, frozen, dirty, and snake infested (ok, maybe not snake infested, but it would not have surprised me) so I had to replace them. Enter Guitar-fetish.com, and their awesome selection of parts. I ordered a LP upgrade kit which had 4 pots, a nice toggle switch (the old style that is just awesome), and new caps. I got a great deal, but that’s neither here nor there. So, because I’m doing this job as a wedding present, it’s free. I decided that I’m going to put the nice switch in my Virgo, and give him the BC Rich toggle, which is 100 times better than the one in his guitar anyway. So I replace the volume pot, and the switch, and the cap in my BC Rich, the last of the stock electronic parts in the guitar. I plug it in and WOW! I would have never believed that a switch and a cap would do that much. The difference was simply astonishing.

And about the old guitar, sounds great! For 30 years old, it plays like a new one. I guess the point of this is Guitar Fetish is awesome, and amazing and I have now officially left the school of thought that believed a switch would not change your tone.

Formerly Known!

Current mood: bored

New band project is progressing nicely. We have found a drummer and a bassist, both extremely talented. Originals are begining to bubble out from us, although our main focus for the moment is on covers just to get up on stage. Still looking for a singer, but if we dont find one, I guess I could continue the duty, although I have no vocal confidence, but were working on that.

I must say that colaborating with these guys is like a breath of freash air in the near stagnat creative-funk that ive been in for almost a year.

Anywho, soon I hope to have a recording up as we begin to prepair for a show.

New Band

Current mood: hopeful

Well, news for the few people who actually look at this page, and for the even fewer that actually read the blogs, starting a new band. Kang Garnic and I are starting a band for the sole purpose of getting on stage again. We've gotten together twice, and already have a short set ready to go, which is more productive than any band that Ive ever been in has been. Further, members are stacking in, which is great, all that's left to find is a bassist.

Even better, I am bringing in some of my fravorite orininals, including My Girl's A Stripper, and Sin. Working on a few new songs too, like a thrash medley of Slayer, Metallica, Anthrax, and Megadeth.

But the greatest thing is that I feel like this time, I'm doing this right. Concerts were lined up, and bands we are now to open for had agreed before Kang and I had even played a note.

I really dont know why I wrote this, because I am not the blogging type. But hey, that's what's going on im my music world.

"On the Beating Path"

Current mood: happy

The last song of my 3 song recording marathon is almost done, and I feel whiped out. The song, titled "On the Beating Path" began in January as an alternative to beating the living shit out of my roommate, a 20 year old male retard that has the drama-driven lifestyle of a 14 year old pubesent girl. Not the average 14 year old pubesent girl, the ones who were considered overdramatic in late-middle-early-high-school, so you know what I mean, but I digress. This song almost had it's life ended on last thursday when I was sick of mulling over a 2 min 30 second song trying to find a way to make it develup.  That night, feeling like I was attempting to use "rogane" to grow wings out of an ass (donkey), I contemplated scrapping the song, and leaving my creative wave of the past month to die a sinister death of inactivity. Instead I desided to jam on the song for 20 mins, and if nothing fell out, it was over. The next morning I did just that. As if by magic the song suddenly grew to a marathon 7 mins. I imeadiatly set about recording this beast. I now feel as though this song has risen from an almost certin death to being a powerhouse staple of my repitwar.

Recording

Current mood: lethargic

Recording, my god, the largest love-hate relationship of my life. There is always something that is great about being in the studio, whether your home studio (in my case) or a high-end professional studio. There is a different feeling, like a buzz in the air, creativity at its finest spills from every stiring, pick, pen, and mouth. Yet, every time there is the bane of my existance. "you were a 64th early on the second open of the riff," "play something DIFFERENT!" "Play more like..." you get the picture. I guess I'm lucky enough to be recording, for the most part, alone. At least then the voice critequing my every move can be silenced with enough whiskey. I guess this is more a rant about recording with a band, where one is forced into the most tight, uncomfortable, and abrasive atmospheres, where quite literally, every band will fight. But this animosity is what bands, especially hard rock bands, thrive on, so is it really so bad? who knows?

All in all, I have no idea why I wrote this... but either way, comment on my songs god damnit!
