i'm very happy with my HW1. they are made in USA, using made in usa parts.
the biggest difference is the finish. the HW1 has a "satin" finish(thinner laquer).
the newer HW's have the BadAss II bridge which is a huge improvement over the
older models like mine. hope that helps

I'm not sure about taking it on a train - it's not that small or light. I guess it could be done...I've taken more stuff on trains before I suppose but it is a lot of work to move it.
