I first picked up the bass but switched to guitar back in October 2006 but didn't do much with it so no I haven't even been playing for ROUGHLY a year. I'm still learning a lot, I'm self-taught, never taken any lessons, and know MORE than 3 chords in case you're wondering, or wanna spring that whole "you're just doing it because it's cool" BS a lot of other kids do.
My favorite genres of music are generally Alternative Rock, Industrial(Rock), and some varieties of Punk (Horror Punk, Gothic(Rock) etc.)
My main GUITAR-playing influence is Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins. Influence in visuals being Wednesday 13. And song-writing/overall influence being Mr. Michael Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails.
I've been getting into blues-style playing as my favorite kinds of solos are usually blues solos in metal/hard rock.
I remember hearing something that roughly translates to:
"Blues spawned rock n roll, rock n roll spawned the original metal, original metal came before punk, punk came before grunge, grunge came before nu metal, and nu metal finally decayed enough so that GOOD metal could get a foothold and come back."
