I've seen Mehldau play a bit of Elegiac Cycle on YouTube, but I don't have the album. I have his House on Hill and Songs volumes. They're great.

Yea, Berklee's pretty good. It's very resourceful and inspiring. There are good and bad teachers...but fortunately my teachers are all pretty good. My harmony teacher is the editor of "The Almanac of Guitar Voice Leading", which is a phenomenal book on all of the harmonic possibilities of voice-leading. You should google it and check it out.

Heartcore is fusion, but not like Lane or Metheny or Gambale fusion. It's very very experimental and is more or less an album full of tone poems and ambiance oriented tracks.

And yeah, I love Mehldau as well. He incorporates a degree of polyphony in his playing and it really stands out. And I'm a fan of most of the other artists you mentioned as well.

Very nice. Yes, I love Zhivago and his minor blues. The minor blues is especially unique and inventive because of its style and progression. And his Deep Song stuff is absolutely beautiful. The Cloister, Brooklyn Sometimes, If I should Lose You, Gesture Lester, etc. They've been in my head for 2 years. I also think the take of The Next Step and Use Of Light on Deep Song is better than the takes on The Next Step (the album). Have you heard anything from his Heartcore album? That one is very...out there. I can't say I enjoy it as much as TNS and DS but it's still very interesting. Oh, and for my Berklee audition I arranged a solo chord-melody of Use Of Light. :)

Btw, have you seen this?

Yay, another Rosenwinkel fan! Kurt's my favorite guitarist and jazz composer. He's just too amazing. What tunes of his do you like?
