My Favorite Albums Of This Year.

I'm pretty bored, so I thought I would post a blog on some of my favorite albums that I've bought this year. Keep in mind, this does not mean the albums have been released this year. As a matter of fact, some of these albums are pretty old. Some of these albums range from Metal to Alternative. Actually, if any of my friends from the Metal forums see's this, then I pray they show me mercy from some of the stuff I'm going to name. Trust me, these albums are great, and they are definitely worth jumping genre's to hear. Now, let's get started.

Opeth - Watershed
One of Opeth's best. Some people were disappointed, but I was not. Songs like Heir Apparent, The Lotus Eater, Burden, Hessian Peel, and Hex Omega make this album an absolute must have. Other songs like Coil and Porcelain Heart are great additions to the album as well.

Porcupine Tree - Fear Of A Blank Planet
An absolute masterpiece! While not considered to be PT's best, it's still a wonderful and absolutely beautiful album. I recently got this CD, and it's become a favorite amongst my collection of music. Steven Wilson is a friggin' genius! The guy knows how to make great music, and this album just proves it. Every song on this album is a must have for anyone who appreciates music.

Mastodon - Blood Mountain
This album turned me into a Mastodon fan. Actually, I knew of the band long before this masterpiece was released, but I never really liked them that much until I listened to this album. I wrote a review on this album a while back, and if you read that, then you'll probably see how seriously I feel about this album. It has changed my view on Metal, just like Opeth and Dream Theater did. To me, that's what makes this album so great to me. All the songs are great, but my personal favorites are: The Wolf Is Lose, Sleeping Giant, Capillarian Crest, Colony Or Birchmen, and This Mortal Soil.

In Flames - Whoracle
My first introduction to the true In Flames. You know? The band that used to be outstandingly good. This truly is one of their best, if not the best. I love listening to this album from beginning to end. Jesper Stromblad and the other guitarist (I can't remember his name) write such wonderful riffs, and they have really made an impact on my guitar playing. Everything about this album is great!

Between The Buried And Me - Colors
It didn't take long after I got this album for it to become one of my favorite Metal albums. BTBAM is now one of my favorite bands, and this album is the reason why. Every song compliments one another, and every song is spectacular. Once again, this is a must have for any Metal fan.

Relient K - The Bird And The Bee Sides
Yea, yea, yea. Laugh if you must, but I am a fan of Relient K. Yes, I said it! Why? Because they never seem to disappoint. Why so? Because they play the music that they love to play, and that's why I like them. They pull influences from classic bands like The Beach Boys and The Beatles. Honestly, Relient K have not put out an album that I dislike. With every new album, they sound different and new. This album is just another great album by them.

King Crimson - In The Court Of The Crimson King
A classic. Definitely KC's best. From the genius guitar riffs and licks by the guitar virtuoso Robert Fripp, to everything else, this album is yet another masterpiece.

Antestor - The Forsaken
Despite being one of the early pioneers of Norwegian Black Metal, Antestor are extremely overlooked by the Black Metal community, because they held Christian beliefs. They are credited to being the only Christian band to have a record released by Cacophonous Records. Although, when the record company found out about their religious beliefs, they were booted from the label. The label lost a good thing, because Antestor continues to be an outstanding band, who continue to be overlooked by many. The Forsaken is a wonderful album! Great guitar, great keyboards, and great Black Metal! I would recommend this album to any fan of Black Metal.

Opeth - Still Life
For a long time I have proclaimed Blackwater Park to be my favorite Opeth album, but after I listened to Still Life, it took the title away from Blackwater Park. Still Life is the best Opeth have ever performed, in my opinion. Every song is over 9 minutes in length, except for the masterpiece that is Benighted. The Cd starts off with The Moor and just continues to get better throughout the whole thing. Seriously, if you are an Opeth fan and you don't have this album yet, then go get it! Crap! You can get it on Itunes for 6 bucks! GO!!!!!

Cynic - Focus
Searching around the Metal forums, I kept hearing about this great band known as Cynic. After hearing so much good about the band, I decided to give them a chance. I soon downloaded the song "I Am But A Wave To....." and that got me friggin' hooked! Cynic is definitely different from any Metal that I've heard. Crazy jazz influenced leads and robot vocals! Now it doesn't get any better than that!

Other albums that I loved:
Dream Theater - Images And Words
Iced Earth - Framing Armageddon
Meshuggah - Nothing/Obzen
Crimson Moonlight - Veil Of Remembrance
Decapitated - Nihility
Soilwork - Stabbing The Drama
Nevermore - This Godless Endeavor
Necrophagist - Epitaph

Thank you to all who took the time to read this.
