shreddymurphy wrote on Feb 24th, 2009 3:27amYeah, we really have quit a few parts that are 320 bpm. It's actually stupid, haha. A really easy way to build up speed is using a metronome, however I used it in a different way than most people. When I started learning speed picking I would set the click kind of slow, maybe around 60 bpm and do alternate picking in whole time. 1 stroke for every click. Then I would go to half time, 2 strokes for every click. Then 1/4 notes (4 notes for every click), then 1/8th notes (8 notes every click). Remember you just want to keep it clean and accurate, and in time. I would do each one for a few minutes before I moved on to the next. Example: 1/2 time for 2 minutes before moving on. Once you are comfortable with that speed at 1/8th notes increase maybe 5 bpm and start the whole method over. Don't try to jump straight to 1/8th notes at the new speed. Start the whole process over again with whole time. That will make you comfortable with your pick, and it will help build picking strength. quote |
