Sorry, didn't see this one.
It's a good allrounder after a speaker swap and EQ in the loop. For cleans the EQ is inconsequential though. The cleans sound Fendery to me while the distortion is generally Marshally, except darker... I use mine for just about anything from jazz to br00t4lz (for example: Final Wars by Buckethead)
IMO the amp generally lacks bass (on the cleans I tend to leave it at '10' unless I'm using an overdrive for bluesy stuff, same with the lead channel) while too much treble can sometimes make it harsh with the lead (EQ ameliorates this) and the gain boost also adds quite a bit of fizz and harshness (again, EQ goes a long way to making the lead channel very usable)
The gain channel is literally completely different once you throw an EQ in the loop. |
What does your EQ typically look like? Thanks for all the help so far

ticklemeemo wrote on May 22nd, 2009 3:12amAre you still planning on turning your VK into a head?
I've got a couple ideas, but how are you going to make the enclosure? I was going to use the original body but I am considering starting from scratch. quote |

Hey, sorry for answering so late.
I've changed the speaker and that's about the only semi-permanent mod. On top of that I generally have a dummy jack in the first input. I might change the power tubes to EL34s if I can find more information on what it does to the sound. |
Nah its not late. How is youre Valveking $718 then? Oh god I just realised I commented you forever ago ha, I forgot, do you have an answer to my second question?

Basically.
The guy was a psycho and showed up at my door wanting to trade back after posing as someone wanting to trade me a cab, never asking for my address or saying he wanted to trade back.

I almost never use the reverb on my VK... it's the delay pedal.
And yeah, sometimes I do think I have too much, but not much I can do about it 'cause turning the volume down just kills it off and turning the feedback makes it alot shorter. |
ahh fair enough

Horlicks wrote on Oct 25th, 2008 8:01amThe KFK is pretty much the same as the standard just with two outputs. I got it for a better price than the standard 10 band though.
I think they're overrated because many people say they are the best pedal, and they can make your amp sound awesome. When really they are only good for very minor changes to your tone. It isn't a versatile as you might think. quote |

Anyway, we ended up paying about $60 or $70 more than it costs in the U.S. (which is pretty much what the speaker cost in the first place! ) And it's not that prices are high - it's that the taxes and tariffs are so extraordinarily high in order to promote buying Jamaican (which can't occur in the first place here, as Jamaicans don't make guitar speakers) Damn protectionism.Dude, that's gotta suck. If you ever want to buy a half stack or something... you'd probably be better off getting a plane ticket here, buying one, and coming back home. |
The shipping would still kill me unless I sent it by ship or something (which could take a loooong time).
