I have been playing piano for as long as I can remember, drums since I was 8yrs, guitars/bass since I was 14yrs. I feel that I am naturally best at and most enjoy songwriting.
One of the most rewarding and fulfilling aspects of the guitar for me is the level of expression that one can obtain when writing songs from the heart and minimally thinking about it/using your brain. It must come naturally to be real. It is how I tell my stories, as well as an escape and outlet.
Another activity I most enjoy and take seriously is working on technique/practicing. This is where I detect a single weakness in my playing, and attack it immediately. I also have a bit of a
"secret-weapon" method. I utilize endurance drilling to maximize and perfect control over my instrument. This is also where I am using my brain.
The final part of guitar playing I enjoy enormously and train frequently is improvising over chord changes and developing a works-better-under-pressure demeanor. I find it to be much fun to try to play unique and expressive, original lead guitar playing at the drop of a hat. I believe that if one can maintain being organized, and just have fun at the same time, they will go far. I try to be as musical and melodic as possible, but have killer chops too.
