Nathan_393 wrote on Aug 19th, 2008 1:20amKey word: tasteful. Tell people you want to write "tasteful" music, and instantly everybody thinks your cool. But you could be in a band and play like Ywingie and say your solos are "tasteful" because the definition changes, but appeals, to everybody.
And dude, thanks for the compliment! I try to keep it epic once in a while anyways :P quote |
Nathan_393 wrote on Aug 19th, 2008 1:19amI know what you mean - forming a band these days is hard. Because everybody seems to be wanting to slap that -core thing on the end of their genre or is into doing something "original", like ripping off Symphony X or Maiden.
Honestly though, I just found out a couple really close buddies of mine play various instruments and was like "You! Join my band!" and when asked about genre, I didn't limit it. I said "I'll do whatever I'm inspired to do, so bring your own influences along". Like our drummer doesn't even listen to metal, but he's in a band that mixes melodic death metal, thrash metal and hard rock. You just gotta entice people and make it sound like something they'd be interested in. And make sure the music you write is good. I was in the exact same situation as you until like two months ago, so it's crazy how quick things can change too. quote |
Nathan_393 wrote on Aug 18th, 2008 10:13pmDude form another - if anybody heard you guys play or anything it's sooo much easier to build cred. My band's got three people, including myself, because we don't see the need for an additional guitarist yet, but we keep hearing about guitarists who are looking to join bands. So the second we need one, we can just make a couple phone calls and we're all set. So if your name is out there like that, just tell a few people you're looking and you'll get a couple calls.
Sounds like a good move with that Dean. The other thing too is that if you're in a band, you can at least take it shows or to the studio regardless of whether or not it fits in the car, y'know? Because somebody's bound to have an SUV or a minivan. quote |
Nathan_393 wrote on Aug 18th, 2008 9:52pmHey man!
No worries!
Yeah I'm still rockin' that beast! It sounds like sex!
Actually, my band is like 100% formed now, so we're working on material and talking about doing some shows and recording a pro demo and stuff. Life is good out here man.
Did you ever sell that Dean of yours btw? Because I see it in your profile photo...
If you didn't and still want to sell it, I just got a job and may have some cash eventually! lol quote |

Nathan_393 wrote on Apr 15th, 2008 2:24pmThe teaching of guitar has come to a halt, pretty much. And I definitely did, the Macbook is now 150% awesome. I need to check out The Hills now, seeing as you recommend it so heartily. I don't know your last name, just your first.
and you have started revision very early - i can't work that hard all the time. props.
but message me your whole name and i will for sure add you on the book of face!
hope all is well with you
