I am sad to report that untill I can get the phoneline back up, I won't have access to the net to give you guys reports and updates much more. Work progresses as normal. By the end of the month, I'll have the C set scales down all over the neck I hope.
Recently I got all 8 "C major scale boxes" down... I know there are more beyond the 12th fret, and also there are other boxes that are within the first 11 frets that aren't covered by the Fretboard Logic series, but I'm working on the ones presented. I not only got all the ones presented down, but they are all up to my old speed cap of 16th notes at 80bpm. Tomorrow is going to be fun .
I wonder how some of the tabs that used to be hard are at least somewhat easier now that my speed is up?
I got up to 120, and I'm going so fast that I need to just stop here for a while and rest up... And by rest up, I just mean get used to being at 120bpm.
I think I finally got exactly how the FBL system is so damned revolutionary... I' ve been trying to get into expanding the C set scales , but I forgot to check FBL on the shapes and such... oi... needless to say, I'm going to check that out a lot today and for the rest of this month .
Man, I'm starving with no job, and mom ain't got one either... guess it's off to interfaith ministries for food untill we can get a job..
Well, 108bpm was reached today, and I worked on expanding the scales more again. We may finally be without roommates soon, though I like em, it's a bit much at times... plus the money issues with this is just way out of hand...
I had to pull tripple duty today, as I failed to practice any really for 2 days there somehow, and pulled myself up to 106bpm. I'm working on expanding the scales again tonight. I love playing this stuff, but I still search for a lick to practice to help me bring my legato (no picking at all) up to scratch. I might have found it with the intro stuff to Dream Theater's Constant Motion. We shall see if I can legato the hell out of that in time or not, .
All this practice is such a workout... what a cool buzz/high one can sometimes attain in doing stuff like this .
Well, I made 102bpm today. And that tricky set of C Lydian scales that start from the A string 15th fret C, are getting easier with more taliered practices. I'm also going to be working extensively over the next days to correct any issues that are poping up with clarity of tone and such.
I did reach 100bpm today! And I've worked on having fun with some of the scales, tomarrow I will hopefully exand into other "positions" again...
I did notice I'm going to have to work on that C Lydian scale again.. as I suck at it. I know two ways from the same point (starting on the A string 15th fret C) to form it... but both have their pick-a-dillos at these kinds of speeds... so something to work on .
Man I felt great yesterday, I don't know what it was, but today I'm back to feeling like shit! Guess it was the full belly right after getting up and getting dressed (got to go out to BK)... so heh...
Those of you who are "always feelin great".. how do you do it?
Well, today I made it to 98bpm, and started having some fun with the scales. I've mainly had fun expanding the scales to other areas. I started, after practicing the scales and uping my speed to 98bpm, just learning where all the C's were on my 22. Well, after I got them down, I just started finding the C major scales from them, and sometimes some of the other scales too, but mainly the C major scale for now, though I'm sure I'll expand into the other C scales later. After all that, and the room-mates getting into a major argument with their son, I turned on 4 Non Blonds (their Bigger, Better, Faster album {or whatever you call it }), and just jammed with them. With my new-found speed, and new scales, I was all over the fretboard having fun while sounding out some of the best sounds I've ever made. They may not have allways been in perfect alignment with the music on the speakers, but man... It felt good to me . Anyways, after all that, I figured I'd update my blog for you guys. All in all guys and galls, I'd start working this system I've come up with! It seems to work for me . Give it a try at least, trying wouldn't hurt ya .
I broke into 96bpm territory, not but two more days left and I'll be at 100bpm! But man is this becoming a hell of an arm/finger workout! Who knew working the muscles would lead to a WORK OUT, oi *faints*.
Anways, Now that I have all the modes (including a 3 minors) under my belt, I'm going to be working for the rest of this week, and all of next week, on expanding these scales out from their 12th fret box position I've been working from all of last week, and Monday and Tuesday of this week.
It is late (3:50am) over here, so I guess I'm out for the night, cya round tomarrow afternoon for another instlation of Outside the Octaves: Blog.
Will Outside the Octaves break into 98bpm tomarrow? Will he be able to expand the scales he has learned so far? To find out, tune back in tomarrow, same Blog time, Same Blog Channel .
