IT WAS FUCKING AMAZING!!!
I've never seen anything like it, the best musical I've seen so far. (I still have to see Hairspray, Wicked, We Will Rock You, Spamalot and Avenue Q though)
The effects were...ah fuck it. I'm not gonna list what was good and what was bad, it was all stunning. Bought the CD recording of it I'm so glad I sat in the stalls as well, seeing all the hobbitses....^^
One actor who was outstanding was the guy playing Gollum. You first see him crawling head first down the tree roots/branches on the front of the stage. I sure hope he doesn't suffer from vertigo xD He played his character brilliantly. The way he moved and sat was impressive, but he really shone during the song where Smeagol is resisting Gollum's desire to take the ring.
I've never sat with my mouth open for 3 hours before. The only thing that spoilt it was the row of german girls behind us, the ones to the left kept on laughing and the ones to the right fell asleep (god knows how they managed that)
Lord Of the Rings is one of those that MUST be seen if you liked the books or films. It is heavily condensed but that does not spoil it in any way. The show lasts for 3 hours including the interval but it doesn't drag on and every minute is thoroughly enjoyed.
The best seats are in the stalls IMO, you feel a lot more involved.
