OK, here we go with the first instalment of, hopefully, many CD reviews. I will rate CD's out of 10, tell you about them and then tell you 3 songs to download from this album if you aren't interested in the whole thing. There are quite a few albums I want to review so I will do 10 today...
Morrissey, "Greatest Hits" - 8.5/10
This one surprised me a bit. Greatest Hits collections are supposed to get you into an artist or band but I had already known Morrissey via The Smiths (as he was they're lead singer) so it came as a surprise that it was almost completely different. There was less of an off-beat sound and more of a heavier, distortion sound compared to the one on The Smiths' records. Even after 2 decades, Morrissey still is a very unique singer. Download These: "The First of the Gang to Die", "You Have Killed Me" and "That's How People Grow Up".
Brand New, "Your Favourite Weapon" - 7.5/10
Being Brand New's debut album in 2001, Your Favourite Weapon sounds like a young band with plenty of experience in there genre. It is very Emo/Punk and sometimes gets stale after a while but nevertheless, the whole album is good. There are deffinetly standouts, though. Especially when it comes to some of the lighter songs. You can tell what a great direction they were heading in with those songs. Download These: "Mix Tape", "Seventy Times 7" and "Soco Amaretto Lime".
Brand New, "Deja Entendu" - 9.5/10
On Brand New's second album, they step it up. They include acoustic guitars galore and are constantly highlighting there soft side. While the albums title translates into "Already Heard", this album is one of a kind with different styles including jazz, screamo and acoustic balads. This album is a must have for everyone because there is something for everyone on this masterpiece! Download These: "Okay, I believe you, but My Tommy Gun Don't", "The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows" and "The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot".
Brand New, "The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me" - 9.0/10
Not quite as good as "Deja Entendu" but still a worthy follow up. It was also the next best direction for Brand New to go in. It has a more down to earth feel then "Deja" did. There are also a lot more screams and less acoustic guitars on this album. For example, the amazing balad, "Jesus Christ" has no acoustics in it and is all played on clean electrics which was the best desicion for them. All-in-all, a great album. Download These: "Jesus Christ", "You Won't Know" and "Archers".
Motley Crue, "Saints of Los Angeles" - 7.0/10
I was never a Motley Crue fan. Even though they did have some good songs, I just never felt obligated to buy there albums. One day, I heard the song "Saints of Los Angeles" on the radio and I thought "Yeah, I think I will get this album!" This album is hit and miss. It is an album based on the book they wrote called "The Dirt" and it's about the rise to fame from the LA underground. There are some really awesome songs on here but there are still some really bad ones too. Download These: "Face Down in the Dirt", "Saints of Los Angeles" and "White Trash Circus".
Bullet For My Vallentine, "Scream, Aim, Fire" - 8.0/10
There's not too much I can say about a metal album like this. It's solid guitar all the wat through and is a great buy. Download These: "Waking The Demon", "Last to Know" and "Forever and Always".
Atreyu, "Lead Sails, Paper Anchor" - 9.0/10
I bought this one on a whim. It turned out to be one of the greatest metal albums I have ever heard. The dual voices works out well with these guys. It's a really fun album to listen to. Download These: "Falling Down", "Can't Happen Here" and "Blow".
Scars on Broadway, "Scars on Broadway" - 6.5/10
After System of a Down went on "hiatus", Daron and John formed Scars on Broadway where Daron plays all the instruments except drums. When you hear the first single "They Say", you think that they have something pretty good happening there. And even when you get the CD, the first 4 songs are awesome but after those, the songs get repetitive and boring. And who in there right minds puts the first single from their CD as the last track? This isn't worth it. Download These: "They Say", "Stoner Hate" and "Serious".
System of a Down, "System of a Down" - 8.5/10
These were the golden days of Serj and Daron. This album is funny, powerful and furious. Download These: "Sugar", "Suggestions" and "P.L.U.C.K."
Story of the Year, "The Black Swan" - 8.0/10
The first song, "Choose Your Fate" makes this band sound like Rise Against copycats. Throughout the rest of the album, you can tell there is a RA influence but it slowly deminishes. This is a solid Hardcore/Punk album. It is also one of those album that you have to listen to a few times. The first time I listened to it, I found it whiney and not interesting. Upon further listening, found it was better then I thought. Download These: "Wake Up", "The Antidote" and "Welcome to Our New War".
I play in a band. Yeah. Shocking, isn't it? I play guitar and sing in this band. We are called This Modern Life. We have one other guitarist, a bassist and a drummer. I am also in another, slightly weirder band which includes me (bass), a guitarist/singer, drumer, pianist, 2 saxophones and a trombonist. Ha. Haha.
