Though I don't play metal really at all anymore, I've had a couple guitars that were designed for lots of distortion and playing fast. One of which was an Ibanez that had an EMG-85 in the bridge and an EMG-81 in the neck. That axe plugged into a Mesa Rectifier was domination on a platter. Though, EMG's (at least the one's I mentioned) are active and require room for batteries, which means a lot of guitars would need professional modification for that too work. I had an old Epiphone Les Paul that was fitted with a Seymour Duncan Screamin' Demon in the Bridge and a Duncan SH-1 '59 in the neck. It took a little work to get them to match up, but once it was set, it kicked serious ass like Iron Maiden. Man, I can't believe it's been like 5 years since I sold those.
