Looks like I'm the guitarist of my own ska band, Lemonade Standoff.
Who woulda thunk it?
Well, we need ideas for covers. We're gonna do two: Our ska cover will be She Won't Ever Figure It Out by Big D and the Kids Table (I think) and we need suggestions for covers of non-ska songs.
You know, I've been starting to hate metal more and more lately. The only metal bands I really listen to anymre are Dream Theater, Strapping Young Lad, Meshuggah, Eyehategod, Ephel Duath, and Atheist. I'm becoming a rude boy, much to the dismay of my old friends. My favorite bands lately are Streetlight Manifesto, Leftover Crack, Public Access, and Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution.
On that note, does anyone want to reccomend me some good Boston-style ska (More punk influenced)? Someone that is NOT Scott, please.
So, last wednesday, I saw the Progressive Nation 2008 tour at Terminal 5 in NY. Here's my review:
Three/3: The biggest surprise I've ever gotten. They were AMAZING, the guitarist/singer uses some weird slap/flamenco hybrid, and he fingerpicks shred solos! They've also got a keyboardist who doubles as a secondary drummer, and the two dueled in the middle of the set. 8/10.
Between the Buried and Me: Not much to say, basically an Opeth rip-off with a bit more harmonic minor and more hardcore vocals. 5/10.
Opeth: Amazing. A fairly good light show, especially for an opener, and the between-song banter was HILARIOUS. My only gripe was that they didn't delve into Orchid or Morningrise. 9/10.
The setlist: Master's Apprentice, The Baying of the Hounds, To Rid the Disease, Heir Apparent (Watershed song!), and Wreath.
Dream Theater: The best show I've ever seen. The playing was spectacular and spot on, the vocals were perfect (Honestly, I know he's shaky on some live recordings, but everything sounded studio quality), and the stage show was magnificent. Some of the highlights were: Dueling guitar and keytar solos, a half hour drum solo that culminated in EVERY DRUMMER on the tour coming up and playing on Portnoy's kit SIMULTANEOUSLY, a cartoon to accompany the Dark Eternal Night of all the members battling a werewolf, a Metropolis/Learning to Live medley, and The Dark Nintendo Night. The set was a little biased towards the newer stuff, but the show more than made up for it. 10/10.
The setlist: Constant Motion, Panic Attack, Through My Words/Fatal Tragedy, Dark Eternal night, As I Am, The Ministry of Lost Souls, and Metropolis/Learning To Live.
Okay, so I've come to the conclusion that we have too many greetings.
A few days ago, I meant to give my friend a high five, and he was expecting a handshake and accused me of giving sucky ass hand shakes. Afterwards, the same guy held his hand out wide, so I went to shake it, and he said "no, hug". After that, I held out my fist in a pound it gesture to my friend, and he flinched.
I quit all my other bands to dedicate my time to Burning London, an experimental prog metal band, because they're not afraid to use myspace for exposure. We'll have music up soon, probably covers. We're looking for alot of publicity, add us, tell people about us, if you live anywhere around Orange County NY book us a show, anything. I'd really prefer this one to not fail since I've got no fall back.
Alright, so I've reached the goal of my latest piece of gear (Peavey 6505 ohyes), and it's time to start thinking about my next aquisition. I've gotten over two things:
A: Seven strings. I'd love to have one, but they simply don't offer them in a variety of styles. You get either a dual humbucker hardtail or a dual humbucker floyd rose. No good.
B: Floating bridges. I'm getting into more experimental/proggy music, and tuning is becoming a big deal for me. I've been using my squier for DADGAD and CGCGCE stuff, but that guitar just does not work.
So, I'm thinking I've narrowed it down to two guitars:
The perks of the first are a few more half steps of range on the vibrato, and neck-thru, while the second has the better price tag, a basswood body, and the most undeniably sexy finish on the planet (The second red one).
Obviously the pickups on both are amazing (Duncans and DiMarzios, can't go wrong with either) and the locking tuners are a god-send. I've already made a thread, but I figured I'd get as much help as I can .
By the choice of actors in the movie adaptation of one of my favorite books, Twilight (I know how girly and predictable it seems, give it a chance).
The lead male role, Edward, will be portrayed by that stupid asshole who helped ruin Harry Potter when he played Cedric Diggory (Robert Pattison), and some stupid wanna-be Paris Hilton named Kristen Stewart to play the the female lead, Bella.
If there's anything in the world I truly hate, it's a bad adaptation. At least the director of Lords of Dogtown is in control of it.
So I'm gonna be back at my friend Brandon's house soon, who used to be my "producer", he let me record on his mac and gave me honest opinions on my music. I'm gonna be recording my solo work, instrumentals, pop/folk songs, whatever I feel like writing that day. Expect a few jazz jams and shreds in the next week or so.
