Cool man, well I have someone interested in buying it, but they said they need to wait a month or so and I'd rather sell it locally anyway cause shipping is going to be a bitch on it haha. |
oh hah well hopefully I have the money by then, if not i'll just take the lopoline if yopu have it ahah, is that cab any good as well?

Great! Best sounding 2x12 I've heard without spending an arm and a leg.
It's awesome for capturing the 4x12 sound in a smaller, lighter housing |
Oh yeah? how is it for say the type of music in your music list haha

Nah, I don't even know of a place that carries the Randall MTS series around here, let alone different modules they'd be willing to let me try | that's lame man Did you see that guy with the link to those MTS clips in his sig? I can't find him, but I had the link in my history.
http://www.bandslink.com/randall.htm
that might help you a bit more in your tonal quest

Hmmm... I might check into it. I really like the plexis sound from clips I've heard but I'm afraid the SL+ would get too close to it's sound just by dialing down the gain. On the flip side, I'm not sure the Top Boost will be the sound I'm looking for and have enough umph for my tastes. | The Plexi and SL+ ARE similar, but the Plexi definitely is voiced better for vintagey sounds than the SL+, while still being able to hit some 80's tones. I don't guess there's a way you could try both before buying? And if all else fails, you can still trade

Just got the JTM, the gain is a little on the weak side, but pretty cool for a dirty blues, but I absolutely LOVE the clean sound of it. Now I guess I'll try to sell my Clean module and maybe pickup a Top Boost or maybe a Plexi. | For your mid-gain? Plexi might be better, but the Top Boost will be more unique due to the extra glassy high end (which can be enhanced with a simple mod, but that cleans it up too. Might wanna look into the AC30 mod and see if you can get the extra highs from it without sacrificing gain).

Well, how I have the SL+ set right now is for more of an 80s metal and lead sound, so I don't think the Plexi would be a good filler for that.
I went ahead and told the guy to send me the JTM, we'll see how I like it | You can always trade it for a Top Boost or something later if you don't care for it

Shinozoku wrote on Jan 29th, 2009 2:31pmMatrixClaw wrote on Jan 29th, 2009 at 12:40am :
Yeah, I've been reading the thread about the JTM on Grailtone and it sounds like I'd probably like that module best, especially since I might like its clean tone better, but then I'll be stuck cause it sounds like exactly what I want for a classic rock tone too haha.
I think the Plexi might overlap too much with my SL+?
I also have an offer of a Top Boost, but really not sold on that one, I hear it doesn't really sound much like a Vox, and I'm really wanting to go for more of a Marshally tone anyway. | The SL+ has more balls, a tighter bottom, and quite a bit more gain than the Plexi. The Plexi is definitely more Hair Metal while the SL+ is more thrash. The Top Boost is more like a Brian May sound, but can be modded to sound more like a stock AC30. In class right now, so I'll get back to you later.

Should I trade my 1086 for a Plexi or JTM?
Any idea on the differences? | Plexi has more gain, a bit brighter I think. It's more like early hair metal.
JTM is capable of clean tones, and it more of a rock crunch. It is THE AC/DC and Zeppelin module. Very overlooked and apparently underrated.

That sounds like it'd be pretty cool for sure. Dunno, I really like how it is by itself right now though haha. I still need to get a footswitch for my RM4, but I still haven't decided whether I'm going to get another preamp yet or not, cause if I do, I'll just get a MIDI controller. | With the Randall power amp, you can create a fully capable MIDI rig to select between any of your 4 modules, matching them up to either 6L6 or EL34, or any power tube combo you decide you want
Also, you could always get an Egnater M4 and try those modules too

I got the UltraXL today, and I've got to say... it's EXACTLY what I was looking for. It sounds so thick and saturated. Will be awesome for rhythms
Now I just gotta get me a Blackface and Brahma... | Told you! One thing I don't like about that module though, is that the bright switch makes it so thin and hollow sounding. I'd like to replace it with a gain boost, then put a Mullard 12AT7 in the V1 of the module (to widen it's range of gain and add some more 3rd dimensionality to the sound), so that when I activate the gain boost, it will bring it back to regular specs. Like a 5150 and 5150II in one

Vandals572 wrote on Jan 20th, 2009 3:13amHows the bass response on the G flex? I'm assuming its ridiculous I just want some clarification quote |

Earcandy are pretty sweet too. I was going to trade my G-Flex for a Buzzbomb, but the guy stopped answering my emails haha.
Haha nice that sucks. Is that how you get all your badass gear? Buying used?
Ahhh that clears it up, yeah their is a couple Orange and Mesa 2x12 cabs on Ebay. No Vaders though :/
Vader are probably the tightest cab you're going to get for the price. They're pretty much good for anything modern sounding, but cabs really don't have specific genres they're good for, especially when they're closed back. |

octavarium78 wrote on Jan 16th, 2009 7:48amMatrixClaw wrote on Jan 16th, 2009 at 12:37am :
As far as I know, Vaders aren't stocked in any stores, anywhere. They're all direct.
Avatar and Lopoline are worth a look as well, cheaper but get the job done and sound great as well. |
How about earcandy? I heard they're good. Vader cabs are beautiful man, love the logo. But all I see on youtube is people playing death metal, and their artist page is nothing but teh br00tulz lol. I mean i'll be playing high gain shit, but not all the time is that all theyre good for?

yeah true that. haha I finally got an amp after 8 months of searching. a 5150 II
now I need to save up a couple more months for a cab.. Are vaders any good?

octavarium78 wrote on Jan 13th, 2009 5:29amI actually got the opprotunity to try it out today at the Sam Ash on 43rd and Cactus. Yeah the cleans were pretty good, but the distortion was just lacking something.. maybe I didn't set it right or what. But it just didn't sound as good as the 6505. Yeah the ultra channel wasn't very good at all, I just used the crunch. That's also an issue, I know i'll be selling it sometime or another, im jsut gonna wait for the 5150 II haha. Thanks for the advice man. quote |
