Finally found the time yesterday to rebuild my SHO on veroboard. And I compared the perfboard to the vero schematic once again, they're identical as far as I can discern. Anyways, it now worked like a charm from the moment I plugged in. Hooray for obnoxiously loud boosters

Seems very odd that you should get the crackle but still no sound; it suggests that the signal is running through the circuit but not in the way it should. Did you make the veroboard version? Have you checked your components are all the correct way round, specifically the diodes and the transistor? |
I made both of them on perfboard and checked, double-checked, triple-checked and quadruple-checked for continuity  The components are all in the right way as well, I'm 100% sure on that. Guess I'll be ordering some more parts and verooboard soon..

I built one myself about a year ago and another one a few months ago for a friend, but both aren't working right now and I just can't find the problem. Bypass works, knob crackles and everything, there's just no sound. I'm starting to suspect my schematic, that's why I'm asking. I used the schematic and lay out by Andrew Carrel.

That must be the one then... it has a white statue of the Virgin Mary right in the middle of it, and there's an underwater wall not too far out from shore which you can easily swim to
