It took me a year but now it's here, my first own bass!
Tokai TB48 Thunderbird style, cost € 260, I bought it used but it was almost brand new (it costs € 460 new, I got a great deal). I couldn't find a reasonably priced Fender P Bass and when I tried this bass, it sounded and played great. The only problem is that it's pretty neck heavy. And it's made in China, though it seems solid and has no flaws. Looks bitchin'!
That's cool - I got an Ibanez SR370 a while back, but thinking really hard about getting an Epi TBird Pro 4. So, how much of a nuisance is it for the bass to be neck heavy?
I have already got used to it. It's really not that much of a problem. And if you move the strap buttons, I think it might help.
Epi basses don't have a good reputation here in UG so remember to try it first. I'm not sure how much it differs from my Tokai but still I would try it first.
Update: The neck pickup sounds pretty much like a P Bass (through a Peavey TNT), it's my favorite position and most useful. The bridge pickup sounds jazzy. It makes me want to play that kind of fast stuff, also something groovy with a lot of muting. Both pickups... A bit more scooped sounding. I use both pickups and neck with pick. And when I play with fingers, I use neck and sometimes bridge.
