Why is...

..."intelligence" inextricably tied to cynicism? I see alot of well-read people thinking that being verbose and being able to spew out more quotes and lines from obscure books makes them somehow more open-minded and enlightened than anyone else...
I am currently having a go at reading Nietzsche (Beyond Good and Evil) and the first section of the book is titled "On the Prejudices of Philosophers" whining about how philosophers aren't as objective and wise as they might think, with no recognition of the great irony of what he is writing...

"Oh but how ironic this is too!" you might think, reading this. But the difference is, I recognise the irony in writing this. In fact it was pretty intentional, because to be honest all I'm really saying is:
Crikey! Some people need to lighten up and stop being such nerds!

I agree with you about being using too many words that is annoying, although sometimes tis a bit nicer to use language in a rather less direct way. Ugh there's a big word that explains it so well but I don't know what it is.
