Needs Sabbat and Forbidden, but overall good list

I didn't know you liked Slayer that much :p:

To be honest I only put RiB in... well I actually don't know why.

What I did was get a list of my top 40 (surprisingly not too hard) and then underlined the ones that were classics, that should appear on anyones list... that was the top 16. I should have put RiB somewhere around 35 haha... but yea Show No Mercy is awesome!

quote

freddaahh wrote on Nov 3rd, 2008 2:21pm

Show No Mercy at #1, that's a surprise, it is their best album by far though. I think you could have stuck Forbidden Evil, Coma of Souls, some Sabbat and Onslaught in there somewhere though.

quote

metal Lover wrote on Nov 3rd, 2008 10:44pm

Best list evar! The only changes I would make is to put Strappado in RiB's place. And put The Legacy... well not there at all.

Exumer definitely deserves to be in at number 2.

"FALLEN SAINT!"

MHDrunka wrote on Nov 3rd, 2008 11:04pm

Cheers! I am checking out a few bands at the moment that really I should have got round to years ago, just ticking off the big names that I never bothered with, really, such as Hirax, Forbidden, Holy Moses, etc... so perhaps soon I will have some more additions to make

quote

MHDrunka wrote on Nov 3rd, 2008 11:15pm

By the way, to anyone reading new to thrash, this is a good place to start. All albums on the list are considered the cream of the crop by thrash fans in general (not just me) haha...

I think I'm gonna get to work on a top ## thrash metal demos list, or maybe for death metal I dunno,

nebiru wrote on Nov 4th, 2008 6:05pm

The lack of Onslaught disturbs me.

quote

Vermintide wrote on Nov 4th, 2008 8:04pm

You kidding me man? Show No Mercy?

I'm no expert, but Show No Mercy isn't Bonded By Blood.

I think you can't count.

quote

MHDrunka wrote on Nov 4th, 2008 8:41pm

Are you fuckin kidding me man!!!! Show No Mercy is the absolute pinnacle of evil thrash. Every riff demands full-speed headbanging, not one let up in the entire album. It is thrash metal perfection that's why it's number one! BbB is great, that's why its number 8 but man there is NO topping Show No Mercy

and @nebiru, I'll admit, I've only heard Onslaught's demos (which aren't even metal), I'll get round to hearing their full lengths once my net is uncapped on the 10th

quote

metal Lover wrote on Nov 5th, 2008 6:23am

Metal Storm/Face the Slayer FTW!

quote

MHDrunka wrote on Nov 5th, 2008 8:24am

wait a second vermin..... I challenge you to find an album that owes more to Show No Mercy than BBB does. I can't even do that myself...

quote

Stranglehold wrote on Nov 5th, 2008 4:19pm

Great list mang, excellent choice of number 1. Anyone who doesnt like it is a false.

quote

Triumph2002 wrote on Nov 5th, 2008 9:00pm

Good list but, needs to be longer, Destruction (Germany) - Infernal Overkill. it is a classic

quote

MHDrunka wrote on Nov 6th, 2008 12:16am

there are a few more i should probably add, a few more bands i need to hear, so i dont think this list will be final

quote

lpfan4ever wrote on Nov 6th, 2008 1:08am

Where is Metallica-Master of Puppets? Thats my favorite thrash lolz

quote

Steven E wrote on Nov 6th, 2008 2:20am

where the fuck is peace sells!?

quote

MHDrunka wrote on Nov 6th, 2008 10:07am

MoP is somewhere around the bottom and Peace Sells is about halfway towards the bottom.... that is, bottom of all thrash albums ever btw

quote

yao151 wrote on Nov 6th, 2008 9:34pm

so basically you can't stand metallica or megadeth?

they are thrash too whether you like it or not

quote

Steven E wrote on Nov 7th, 2008 2:01am

this is biased bullshit.

quote

MHDrunka wrote on Nov 7th, 2008 5:38am

I don't mind some Megadeth, they are a decent band, but don't deserve to be on the top 40 because they didn't release anything that is better than any of the albums in the top 40. Metallica made shit thrash metal, that's just how it is. I'm sorry if that's hard for you to accept, but thrash is about aggresssion and musical violence, neither of which Metallica have ever provided.

Besides, this is a list I made to give others an idea of what I think are the best 40 thrash albums ever. Clearly it is going to be biased because it's my opinion. Also, any list of this sort is biased unless its based on album sales, which clearly is no indicator of how good a thrash metal album is.

In short, fuck off

quote

MHDrunka wrote on Nov 7th, 2008 5:39am

and to yao, I never denied that they were thrash metal. I just denied that they were as good as any of the bands in the top 40

I thought the morbid saitn one would have been higher. Good list though.

quote

MetalMessiah665 wrote on Jan 23rd, 2009 2:34am

Slaughter and Morbid Saint should both be higher, and RiB I don't think should even be on the list. Show No Mercy definitely deserves #1, though.

LULZ

Megadeth are almost as over-rated as Metallica

I must admit my thrash listening has been very limited but that may have to change starting with EXUMER and the other 38 albums I have never listened to on this list... I'd be ashamed but I really don't like most thrash so blow me. If your list changes my mind I will thank you.

Sorry for the doublepost, but have you ever heard of razor/ e-razor? Pretty good thrash.

quote

MHDrunka wrote on Jun 10th, 2009 12:44am

nah i havent heard of razor must be really underground

u should start at number 1 and then work down the list..

You sir, have inspired me to make my own list. It will take a while though cause I really want to think about it, but it will be pretty much entirely based on what I think is the best ones, not what the general thought is. Be prepared for a completely different kind of list. :p

MHDrunk wrote on Nov 7th, 2008 at 6:38am :
thrash is about aggresssion and musical violence
This is the main reason my list will be different, because to me thrash is music just like anything else and I judge an album on the level of musicianship, the atmosphere it creates (which is why some very aggressive, violent albums will be rated high too) and the originality it has. Production really isn't a big deal for me, but I can't deny the fact that it mostly just hurts the music and the riffs that were (mostly) originally meant to be heard and the false sense of aggression bad production gives really doesn't compensate the loss. Well, for me at least.

quote

MHDrunka wrote on Sep 20th, 2009 2:35pm

I rate them on a thrash metal scale I wouldn't use for say, a doom metal album, because if I was in a doom metal mood, I wouldn't put on a thrash album, you know what I mean?

quote

sg_man08 wrote on Sep 26th, 2009 6:34pm

Vulcano gets barely any recognition

You should do one from the best demos from the Thrash Brotherhood. We got great shit going on there. Sev, Verm, and myself included have great shit. I'm not sure about anyone else but if you ask around there I'm sure you'd find greatness. (my shit in particular at #1 haha)
