Finally found the time yesterday to rebuild my SHO on veroboard. And I compared the perfboard to the vero schematic once again, they're identical as far as I can discern. Anyways, it now worked like a charm from the moment I plugged in. Hooray for obnoxiously loud boosters

Here here!

I made both of them on perfboard and checked, double-checked, triple-checked and quadruple-checked for continuity The components are all in the right way as well, I'm 100% sure on that. Guess I'll be ordering some more parts and verooboard soon..
Thanks for the help!

I have no idea then! The veroboard schematic works for me, perhaps there is a slight issue with the perfboard schematic. Good luck! Let me know how it goes.

Hey, just read in the pedalboard thread you built yourself an SHO. What schematic did you use?
I built one myself about a year ago and another one a few months ago for a friend, but both aren't working right now and I just can't find the problem. Bypass works, knob crackles and everything, there's just no sound. I'm starting to suspect my schematic, that's why I'm asking. I used the schematic and lay out by Andrew Carrel.
Thanks already!

Hey dude. I used the Andrew Carrel schematic too. Seems very odd that you should get the crackle but still no sound; it suggests that the signal is running through the circuit but not in the way it should. Did you make the veroboard version? Have you checked your components are all the correct way round, specifically the diodes and the transistor?

My parents won't let me. They reckon a cat's too messy or something. Ah well at least I have weird goldfish. He totally freaks out for food =D

lol. I remember my fish. She was like, an albino goldfish. I named her Belle, from Beauty and the Beast. I can't remember why :/ Cats are crazy clean, especially short haired ones. Tell 'em the cat can go the first time you don't feed it or something ^^

$1000? =O
Over here a new AC30CC1 is €1000 and an AC15CC1 is €570.. Second hand you can score an AC30 for about €650 and an AC15 for €450. Damn.

Yeah, shipping is a mother. Over here an AC30 is $1200, $1800 if you spring for the alnico blue speakers. I couldn't find a decent used AC15 locally, so I had to buy new, for about $700. I suppose it's not really that much more when you factor in the conversion rate, but it sure feels like it.

Thank you very much! I guess I'm getting one then if I can't get my hands on an AC30

Cool, I would've gotten an AC30 too, except for the $1000+ difference in price.

I saw one of your posts in the pedalboard thread, and then noticed the question about the AC15. I play one of the newer models (CC1) which has the top boost control. The controls for the boost definitely control how clean your amp sounds. I regularly use mine in a band setting, and have no problems getting mild crunch or nice cleans. Hope this helps.

Thanks for accepting
How do you like that AC15? I heard a lot of people say it sounds tinny and generally just not as nice as an AC30. And how about it's clean headroom, will it still get semi-cleans at band levels? I don't really need squeeky super loud cleans like a Fender Twin gives, but I don't want any crunch at band levels.

I love my AC15. Unfortunately I can't turn it up as loud as I'd like. I wouldn't say it sounds tinny or not as nice but it does sound a bit different. I think it would stay semi-clean but I haven't tried it either.

yeah that's the magical flanger sound ;) ;) ;)

only the EHX Flanger Hoax and the Foxrox Paradox TZF can do that sort of flanging ;o

but apparently you can get it by running two identical flangers that can go to filter matrix and have separate wet/dry outputs together in the way i described and go into through zero flanging... apparently - try it out :haha:
