Guitar Teacher

Hey guys i have been playing guitar for about 2 years now and i know a good amount of chords and i can read alot of tabs realyl easly. I decided to take guitar in my high school and they out me in a beginers class i cant read music that well but the stuff they are teaching me i already know it is all chord based right now i am wondering if i should change it and move up into a harder class i am here to play durring school and to learn how to read music :confused:
