My recording adventure

I've finally decided to try recording some of my playing. Mostly they're just covers, but it's always good to get feedback and so forth. My first attempt was a complete failure. I had gotten a new soundcard, the proper cables, a preamp for DI, but it just wasn't working. The next evening I go to try again, but I decide to take another look at my connections on the sound card. It appears that I was trying to record through one of the surround sound outputs, rather than the line in port. I seem to have read the description of the ports backwards as they are complete opposite sides. Now I've gotten everything straightened out, and have recorded my first little cover track, with many more hopefully to come.

New Projects

Current mood: chipper

So I've decided to begin doing some electronic projects out of curiosity. I've started construction on a pedal, and hope to begin doing some mods to a Mex strat I have had for a while also.

The pedal is nothing fancy, just something to cut my teeth on, so to speak. It's a frequency specific booster, and I hope mainly to gain an understanding of what you have to do in order to solder correctly, and so on. If it works even better, I'll have a neat pedal in addition to learning some things.

As to the strat, I've ordered a custom drilled pickguard, as I lack the tools myself, and plan on replacing my 5-way switch with 3 individual switches ala Brian May. With this I should be able to change each individual pickup to in-phase, out-of-phase, or off, and create some pretty interesting sounds. While I'm in there I also wanted to upgrade my stock pickups to something better. I'm still looking for something to catch my eye, but I'm hoping to get some good advice on the thread I started.

If anyone reads this and has some good advice feel free to send me a message, I'd be very interested to hear what others with more experience have to say.
