Being a guitarist... When can a person say he is a guitarist? When can I say "I can play guitar"? Is it theory that defines a musician? Is it the speed of his strumming? I've been studying/playing guitar for a year and half. I've always been a rock/metal lover, finding those incredible sounds coming out of those 6 strings addictive. Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Guns'n'Roses, Iced Earth, WASP... they all deserve their power and essence to both the songwriting AND their guitar players. It was during 2006 that Guitar Hero came out. I already knew the previous Harmonix Studios games and loved them, so I had to buy it. It was love at first note... I got a job too, so I decided not to hesitate (as I did years ago for skateboarding... damn!) and I decided that those headbanging air guitar moves I always made while listening to Fear of the Dark or Enter Sandman had to be transformed into something REAL. I bought my first entry-level guitar so that if I quit early, the loss in terms of money would be acceptable... But I'm still here, and thanks to this portal and to some lessons I'm attending weekly, I find myself more and more enraptured by the sounds of my Yamaha EG-112... I even gave her a name (Blackie, as she's black and I wanted to somehow offer my tribute to Blackie Lawless)...
Still, I can't say "I can play guitar"... Why? Honestly, I can play some cool riffs from my favourite songs, but I still need a lot of practice... I think I'll use this spot to write down my thoughts about playing/studying and performing, my improvements and frustrations, hoping to get you all entertained and interested, if possible, and to have feedbacks and comments...
