HELP!!! Recording

Hello, I'm new to computer recording. I have Cakewalk and I just got Headphones so I can hear what I'm trying to play with now.
anyways.......
    Heres what I wonder:
1.Can u make a good recording of Amplifiers with a dynamic mic plugged straight into your comp? If so what mic? I know Shure SM-58's are good but damn there expensive.

2.Drums with one mic? Condenser or dynamic? Placement?

3. Plugging guitars and basses and such straight into comp? I have but my pedals always sound horrible then.

4.Does anyone now of any good websites for info like this or to buy recording gear(besides guitarcenter samash and musicians friend)?

Well if anyone even looks at this if you have any knowledge to pass on I greatly appreciate it.
