Drop d for metal?

most generally, do most people use drop d tuning when it comes to writing metal with loads of distortion???

i usually use drop c for metal, or sometimes lower, but i don't just use loads of distortion, i find a sound that i like, not just a mess

you have to varie tunings depending on if its a vocal or to suit the piece , alot of groups stay in drop d because this suits the vocal range of the singer,,,slipknot use "d" on most songs,,,at the end of the day try to be different...peace

right on. ive just noticed on most of the metal tabs ive learned, the tuning was in drop d.
