V1
Well I'm getting too old to live all alone
I can't tend to the farm any more
So I rented a suite at an old folk’s home
And moved there a few weeks ago
I can’t bring too many things to the old folk's home
There isn't a whole lot of room
So they’re having an auction of my so-called estate
Where they’ll sell almost all that I own
Chorus:
At The Auction they’re selling my life away
All the remnants of what used to be
At the Auction you’re buying my memories
Please take care of them - they meant so much to me
V2:
There's the dishes we got for a wedding gift
There's the table where we ate all our meals
There's the silverware we used for so many years
There's the books that she used to read
There's the seashells we found on our honeymoon
There's the dresser where she kept her nice clothes
There's all of the treasures that she loved so dearly
At The Auction everything goes
V3
There's the microwave and the TV trays and the waffle iron
There's the coffee pot and the griddle and the pans
There's the chainsaws and the shovels and my other tools
There's the drums from when I played in a band
There's the sofa we sat close together on
There's the quilt that she made just for me
There's the bed where she whispered her final ‘I love you‘
At The Auction heartaches are free
I'm retired, in my 60's.
I've played the drums in public venues (such as church socials) since age 8, began playing in bars, etc. at age 10, learned guitar and keyboards along the way, kept it up until age 35, but working days and playing nights was no longer fun, so only played occasionally at home.
After retirement a few years ago, started practicing seriously again, my wife bought me a great Taylor acoustic, and I just love to play and sing.
On all my recordings I play all parts, no backing tracks. Bass is a setting on my keyboard.
Currently I have two standing weekly gigs (rhythm axe and vocals only), one in Springfield MO lunchtime Wednesdays, and one in Branson, Sunday afternoons. I'm not part of the official Branson music scene, but I meet a lot of visitors from all over the country at my venue.
Update Oct.: The gigs are done for this year until the warm weather (and the tourist season) returns in the Spring. I play a few here-and-there, mainly for the local Veterans Of Foreign War monthly suppers.
In between gigs, I like to record new songs that I am adding to my playlist. I appreciate those who take the time to listen and comment.
