Hey guys and girls, i'll post the first comment, to get the 'flow' going. I prefer tabs, 'cause well... for me, it's easier to read them. But if i try to read a actual music sheet, it takes 4 ever to read and know what note it is.

I also prefer tabs they are easier to understand while music sheets to me are a bunch of dots and silly lines. METALLICA AND TABS ALL THE WAY

aenimafist wrote on Sep 14th, 2007 5:24pm

It is basically impossible to read sheet music for guitar.

quote

Jman09 wrote on Sep 14th, 2007 10:49pm

it doesn't really matter to me, I can do both but I am more used to reading tab.

Giant Tool wrote on Sep 15th, 2007 8:05am

i can read music sheets, but what you have to remember is that when you read a note, theres 2 (or 3 if you have 24 frets) places to play these notes on each string, so ifind tab much easier when learning a song

GO TABS WHOOOOOOOO.

Jessy 007a wrote on Sep 15th, 2007 7:41pm

i guess we're all the tabs type of people. like most of you say, TABS ALL THE WAY!!! but sometimes, there's music sheets that includes the tabs. (Like my 'Easy Guitar Songs' song book)

Jessy 007a wrote on Sep 15th, 2007 7:43pm

I'm not a beginner 'cuz of my book. I received it when I started playing (i think, i'm not sure)

soupdragon wrote on Sep 24th, 2007 2:15pm

I can read sheet music, but tab is soooooooo much better. (and quicker)
Mind you, if you know the name of the note you are playing, you don't really need sheet music at all.

soupdragon wrote on Sep 24th, 2007 2:16pm

Oh yeah, tab is really easy to write down stuff, writing with sheet music takes FOREVER

yeah :)

quote

aig91 wrote on Oct 5th, 2007 7:30am

I also prefer tabs. It is easier to learn how to read and it doesn't take forever to write out!

Tabs + sheet = win
tabs are so much easier to read but you cant get the tempo so i use the combo

yeah, it's all true :)

:wavey:
tabs rock

(and music sheets too)

but i'm goin to have to say, if we had both,
it would be saweet.

Jessy 007a wrote on Nov 12th, 2007 1:30pm

I think tabs r eaiser to read but as some of u guys/girls said, u can't get the tempo when reading tabs, but only with music sheets. So if we'd have both (by the way, we can yay!!) it'd be awesome. And, u can learn the song using tabs, and then u can practice the tempo and things like that with an actual music sheet. :)

Cheers, guy and girls

ok ill put my input into this I prefer tabs but I can read sheet music. If I had a choice I would do tabs. But if i didnt i would be fine with sheet music. What do you guys think about chords I think tabs are better than tabs because sometimes it chords you dont know and if you have the tabs you can easily figure it out. Love ya all.

quote

Jessy 007a wrote on Dec 13th, 2007 5:25pm

Yeah, and with tabs, u can figure pretty much how the beat goes, than well... u know, u can figure out the beat with music sheets too. But if it comes to chords, yeah u know a certain chord from a certain song, but u don't know the beat :(. Unless u know the song and u can figure out how the chord goes, tabs and music sheet would b better for figuring out beats.

petrucci_owns86 wrote on Dec 23rd, 2007 10:25pm

my friend can write and read sheets... i cant. i used to b able to read sheets music, but i forgot once i strated using tabs

The Poopeater wrote on Apr 20th, 2008 4:04pm

quote

purplestrat wrote on Apr 20th, 2008 5:21pm

i like using guitar pro for that reason exactly.... having tabs for the notes, and sheet music for the tempo

quote

icarusguitars wrote on Apr 21st, 2008 12:11am

Both work the bes. When you buy books that have a selection of an artists songs they use both so you can read the tabs easily but the sheet music is there for the beat.

quote

Giant Tool wrote on Apr 21st, 2008 4:26pm

tabs are easier to understand, i can read sheet music, but when i'm learning a song, its easier with a tab because with sheet music, say for example it shows the next note is an e, there are so any places that you can play it, with a tab i know i'm using the right e

TAB = Easier
SHEET = Prime Minister Of Malaysia

quote

Smiley-JLU wrote on Apr 26th, 2008 3:39pm

i think that sheet music is easier. being originally a pianist i guess, but i think its just choice and prior experience.

quote

BassistGal wrote on Apr 26th, 2008 6:49pm

Basiclly I think that the reason you guys like tabs so much is simply because you've all been too lazy to actually take the time to read sheet music.

Tab is the "diet" version of transcribed music in my opinion, the simpler way for people who are beginners and have no idea what they're doing, but if you wanna get serious in music, and more then just that guy who learned to play that song in that site then sheet music is the way.

P.S: If you don't get what I mean, try playing and improvising with a Jazz group :haha:

quote

rockxaintxdead wrote on Apr 27th, 2008 5:41pm

personally i liek to use both. tabs are great but if you can't see the actual value of the notes like u can c on sheet music it can almsot be worthless especially when the guitar parts ur tryin' 2 play are turned down or the rhythms are weird.

quote

Jessy 007a wrote on Apr 27th, 2008 5:42pm

yeah, ur right :) I've been learning songs with music sheets, but i still think that tabs r easier.

quote

Jessy 007a wrote on Apr 27th, 2008 5:43pm

And i'm still practicing to read sheet music. :D

I preffer playing everything by ear actually.
But if not then I'll choose tabs over standard notation. I can read written music by all means, but I just find it easier (if I already know the song) to play it by ear or by tab.

lt22 wrote on May 1st, 2008 11:36pm

TABS ALL THE WAY!!!!
see, with guitar all the intervals are so annoyingly confusing (each string is a 4th up from the last except from B to G which is a major 3rd) that reading sheet music starts to take way too long.
with tabs you take a quick glance and there it is. ez to play. fast. efficient
and also really good tabs will even give you note values and everything.
and just so everyone knows I play sax and clarinet as well as guitar and i prefer tabs to sheet even though i can use either. also mostly accurate tabs are free online, sheet music isnt :P

quote

Jessy 007a wrote on May 2nd, 2008 11:26pm

I like both, but I still think that tabs r easier to read, and that music sheets is good, for the tempo and stuff.

quote

sweet_inc wrote on May 8th, 2008 4:09pm

i would definately say that for guitar...tabs are much better...music is nice for vocals, to be able to get the melody, but for guitar, so much easier with tabs

quote

iceman817 wrote on May 9th, 2008 5:51pm

im a classical guitar player so i usually like to read actual sheet music.... honestly i like it because when you go to college for guitar it'll be easier to get in if you can read actual sheet music.

quote

The Picker wrote on May 10th, 2008 6:57pm

I like the tab that has musical notation as well. Like it has a hollow circle with no stem around the note to show that it's a whole note.

Has anyone else seen this?

quote

Jessy 007a wrote on May 10th, 2008 9:52pm

I have music books that has tabs and actual notes, except that my book is for beginners.

Mettliccaa wrote on May 10th, 2008 10:49pm

It really depends on the instrument if it's any kind of guitar tabs are better but for piano sure its possible to do it in tabs but standard notation is so much better. Sometimes its easier to write stuff out in standard because its easier to view the music and find accompanying melody's and such.

quote

Jessy 007a wrote on May 10th, 2008 11:56pm

Yup, it's true. I don't know how i'd do it, to read piano tabs when learning a song (on the piano).

quote

Lord Of Donkeys wrote on May 11th, 2008 4:21pm

tabs definitely.
