I know I don't blog much anymore, but I've recently been recording and writing my own material, and I figured I would tell you about it.
Recording is a bitch. I used to think that there was nothing technical about music. That it was all emotion, and that, when done right, there were no enzymes or barriers that would otherwise change it or hold it back.
God, I was wrong.
Having to edit stuff and make everything sound right in Audacity, all by your own self, is a pain in the ass. And that doesn't even include writing the actual song, which is a challenge in itself.
But I've already finished one song completely (maybe I might post it up here someday...) and I must say, it is rewarding. I wouldn't consider myself a good songwriter or musician, per se, but it's something I enjoy, so I'm gonna keep doing it.
I have a lot of other ideas in my head right now, too...once summer hits, I should have time to record them all...but with exams coming up, I have bigger fish to fry.
So...that's really it. If I record enough material, I might make a Myspace page for myself soon. But for now, I'm just sitting in my room, writing music and lyrics, and trying to be as original as possible...all while ripping off various Tool songs.
Man, you're right. You have to pay attention to every little thing: placing the recorder or mikes, playing, singing, etc.
I hope you post the song soon; by the way, when you don't record a song in the right way it sounds like "The Song" in my mp3's.
