Congrats go out to my brother, who as of 6/6/09 is now married to a very beautiful woman. Also, yay me for my first 'gig,' since my brother had asked me to perform (alongside my sister who sang) during the wedding.
(Photos taken by my sister.)
My lucky brother and his new wife (probably the most "normal" you'll ever see my brother as)...
My brother ("normally").
The person that took these photos aside from this one (little sis).
The singer (sis after moi).
A best friend I haven't seen in many years and I (by now you realize my family can't take a "normal" photo).
Anyways, lots of changes since I last been here. Been really busy so haven't had a chance to do much here at all. Down to my last three guitars. Sold my Hellraiser in order to raise some much needed money. Sucks to see it go, and now down to the last three that won't be going anywhere. Not selling any more guitars.
Started DJing online now. Gonna put up a link for it later. It's great, been having lots of fun doing it and meeting plenty of new people, and even met one special person cuz of it. Well actually, not because of it, she got me into it.
Now we're engaged. Didn't think that was gonna be something that I'd actually be able to say about myself again, but I'm ecstatic. It'll be a rather long engagement, but loving every moment. I'll have a pic up in a little while. She's pretty much saved me from some rather nasty things.
Other than that, that's pretty much it, although that's quite a lot. Just not elaborating as much as I normally would cuz I'm at work.
Anyways, I'm back, for good or ill... now to catch up on reading some posts.
Well, the last test showed some interesting results. Almost even across the board and many people appearantly had a hard time telling one from another.
Now I'm going for simply which one people like better.
Equipment was kept the same:
If you'll notice the settings the EQ was set to a clean setting, and the amp EQ was flatlined at the 12 o'clock position for bass, middle, treble. OD was supplied by the Danelectro Daddy-O.
Now to throw a little twist in, I threw a third guitar into the mix, so you know that one guitar is the Hellraiser (EMGs), another is the Blackjack (SD Blackouts), and the third is a mystery humbucker guitar (and since i'm working on setting up a number of guitars for some friends, it's not limited to my own collection). Again, just made some quick recordings, wanted to keep something simple. I know my playing isn't great, so please no comments about that.
Choices are listed as follows:
Guitar A - 1, 2, & 3.
Guitar B - 1, 2, & 3.
Guitar C - 1, 2, & 3.
1 = Clean tone.
2 & 3 = OD engaged.
Clips for this particular test have the "New test" title.
So, tell me which one you guys like more! Feel free to comment.
Been asked this many times because I own both a Hellraiser and a Blackjack ATX...
What do I like better? Hellraiser (EMGs) or Blackjack (SD Blackouts)?
So, I put some (really quickly made) clips from both guitars in my profile. Kept the same signal chain, settings, and equipment in regards to the recording, and simply switched from one guitar to another. I didn't play any songs, just strummed a few chords just to try and base everything off of tone.
The "A" tests consists of chords on a clean setting with the neck pickup being played followed by the bridge pickup.
The "B" tests consist of chords on an OD setting, again with the neck pickup first followed by the bridge pickup.
Each clip is recorded entirely with one guitar, but which clip was played with which guitar?
Comment on the clips and tell me what you think.
*Equipment used (other than guitars): Epiphone Valve Standard, MXR 10-band EQ, Danelectro Daddy-O Overdrive pedal.
New member of the family, and letting go of an old
Current mood: chipper
First, the sad news... Letting go of my Peavey Valveking head. Simply too much volume for me to use it in my apartment and it just sits in my closet. I don't gig, so... I like the thing, but not being able to use it sucks. So it's off to ebay and hopefully to someone that will make good use of it.
Now the good news!
Newest addition to the 6-string family:
Gibson SG Faded Special (Brown)
Got a super deal on it with a hard shell case ($600USD). Deal was made sweeter when I found out these also just went up in price by almost $200! Good thing i got things locked in when I did...
Poured over quite a few guitars when I settled on this one, and poured over even more to make sure I got one that was a definite pearl.
I'd type more, but the new baby wants some play time.
Unlike the last time I went, there was much more vintage guitar than there were before, whereas the last time I saw a Roland booth, and several amp and accessories manufacturers. Ark, and Mesa Boogie were the only amp manufacturers here, and accessories (other than those sold by retailers) were pretty scarce. In fact, it pretty much just consisted of local, and not so local retailers that dealt with many a vintage instrument.
Tore myself away from buying another Tele... tomorrow will be another day though... If it's still there... I'm so gonna be in trouble...
The cute DR Strings lady was back though. I'll have to get her pic tomorrow.
