cheers man, and i just passed my driving test - been a great couple of days!

how's classics? looks like an incredible course.

if i, unexpectedly, receive an offer for next september, it is essential that i buy you a drink.

haha, take care man.

again, thankyou for the help.

btw, will you be in your final year this september, or are you all done now?

thanks again for the quick response. really helpful - almost all information on the colleges is either terribly bias or a little vague. i missed the open days, which is a shame, as i would of enjoyed seeing oxford first hand.

may i ask which college you're at, and how your gcse/a levels went?

i picked up A*A*A*AABBC which, i'm led to believe, is far below average (although i do attend a fairly horrendous state school). predicted AAAA at a level though, fortunately. do you know anyone who managed a place with significantly worse grades? it's highly encouraging to hear of such.

more posting limits!

lens-wise the 50mm f/1.8 is a must for anyone, over here you can buy it for £60 so i'm guessing it's even cheaper over in the US. other lenses i'm actually looking at a new one to buy myself as well, i want a good wide-angle but a telezoom and not prime. i have a 28mm f/2.8 which is fantastic too, again pretty cheap, about £140 over here, and a 90mm - 300mm f/4-5.6 but that isn't so great, jsut standard. anyway back to the point, there's a very nice 17-40mm f/4 L series which i've been looking at, but it's quite pricey and probably not what you're after as the zoom isn't so long. i'll have more of a look around, but at the mo i can't really recommend much i'm afraid.

i am very well thank you, i trust you are too :D i cannot wait to start uni in september!

posting limits...

i'm glad you're thinking about a DSLR, are they really that cheap over there?? if you can get the 20D for £200 that is a bargain in itself. the 20d is actually a bit of an old model these days (it's had 2 replacements - the 30d which i have, and the recent 40d which is really awesome), but nonetheless it's still amazing obviously. other models you could look at are the 400d or the 450d - these are not as 'techy' as the 20d/30d/40d, but still a great camera. good for beginners especially, but really, if the 20d is that cheap i would be tempted to just go throw yourself in the deep end and get that.

that all sounds very nice! you're using the word 'neat', that's so american! :p

my european adventure was amazing thank you, without a doubt the best decision i have ever made in my life. i had the greatest time and i am sad that it's all over... but it made me definite that i need to go and live in germany in the future, and i have been already planning my next trips, next summer is the far east, thailand and such. luckily i have a friend who is moving to thailand for a year to study, so i'm going to visit her for a few weeks and we'll do some trekking!
lengthy comment concerning oxford application
with regards to the english faculty specifically, do you know of any oxford colleges that are more lenient in terms of GCSE performance? i've heard that the importance of GCSEs in the admissions process varies from college to college (different staff supposedly harbouring different views on the subject), and mine aren't too great (certainly not horrendous, but I went to a fairly bad state school and only picked up a few A*s). i'm sure i'll be able to...nullify the negative effects of less-than-impressive GCSEs through the interview/ELAT/etc. but i'd still like to better my chances as significantly as possible.

also, what are your thoughts on Keble and Exeter?

my main concern at the moment is simply attaining a place. i'm sure (as appears to be the case with all undergraduates i've encountered) i'll grow to adore whatever college i applied to.

I've not decided yet. Got a talk/meeting today at school for all potential Oxbridge candidates - perhaps that will shed some light to some degree.

And yeah, English.

Any recommendations in terms of a Colleges?

I'm sure you're right, the best advice for everything always seems to be "relax and enjoy yourself". I'm not really too nervous a person, hopefully that will help.

Thanks for the time, Gurgle, it's much appreciated.
more amusingly (and ironically), the aforementioned poster is a computer science student.

way to go! keep on living the dream!
A CS student I am, but that's not what I truly enjoy. I like studying biology, nueroscience, cosmology, and my very favorite: mythology. Getting a degree in something you have a true passion for is major buzzkill. I was not given a choice to live such a lifestyle as those uncontacted Brazilians. Can I now, that my life is in my own hands? Yes. Will I now? No. I am too dependent on technology and a lifestyle so lavish. I wouldn't last a minute out there. However, primal instincts long for that freedom that we will never have.

But yeah, arguing over the internet is like throwing feces at each other across a canyon. No point. :p:

Anyhoo, have a good day.
