IF YOU'RE IN A BAND READ THIS!!!

Current mood: confused

Long story short, a couple of friends and I that have been jamming for a couple of years now have finally decided to knuckle down and try to get somewhere as a band. We jam often and produce music of many different genres. This got me thinking: most bands these days play music of 1 particular genre, however diverse it may be. It seems wrong to have to decide  on one genre when there are so many others we would like to play and it seems that the styles seem to different to try and fuse them together. So really my questions are:

How can you possibly pick a single genre to play when you love to play so many others?

AND

How did you cope with this dilemma?
I know I’m not the only one who’s had this problem.

Basically time and practice.
My band play mostly hardcore/punk/rock but we want to expand our sond while staying close to hardcore so pretty much the same dilemma ^_^'
As i said time and practice, knuckle down and analyse the music in your favourite bands and draw inspiration from all of it.
Plus, jamming absolutely ANYTHING together is a really good method, because it brings out everyone's potential and brings to light your natural influence.
Hope this helped (Y)
