Death metal, Deathcore, and the local music scene

I have really been noticing lately that just about every newer metal band is starting to sound the same. Death metal is still pretty popular, but where the hell has the originality gone? Here's how a basic death metal song gets made. Drummer plays super-fast blast beat. Bassist plays 4 notes. Guitarist comes up with brutal riff in drop B and then a shred solo. Vocalist writes gory lyrics and death grunts over the music. Finished. I know the music is fast and technical, but dammit do something orginal. Where did the creative path started by bands such as Death, Cynic, and Atheist go? I'm glad bands like Saviours and The Sword are popular because at least it's a break from the mainstream metal. Then you have deathcore. The jackoffs known as Job for a Cowboy are the leaders in the new "brutal" style. Yeah, having your vocalist "squeal like a piggy" is real hardcore.

This also reminds me of the local music scene in my area. On Saturdays, bands play at a roller rink (lame I know, but there's not really anything better to do). They play the generic "screamy hardcore" that has become so popular today. The little scene kids love it. I've been there a few times and have seen about 8 or 9 bands. Out of those bands, only 2 were original. One band played grunge/alt stuff and the other band, Pale Harvest, was pure death metal. Two of the screamo bands had keyboard players. :haha: WTF?

Hey, screw you, I like keyboards! I'm guessing the grunge/alt band was Kriegstain or whatever. Hey, and Cyanide Sunrise was good too, remember?
