Lyrics Quiz

Current mood: drunk like a russian

1. The world, is all in the hands of the juggler
he knows, wherever the wind blows,
Girls, collecting the shells on a seashore and sand
    the kings at the door

2. Take a straight and stronger course to the corner of your life
Make the white queen run so fast she hasn't got time to make you a wife
Cause it's time is time in time with your time and its news is captured

3.  I lit out from Reno, I was trailed by twenty hounds
Didn't get to sleep last night 'till the morning came around.

Set out runnin' but I take my time
A friend of the devil is a friend of mine
If I get home before daylight, I just might get some sleep tonight

4.  In the time of chimpanzee's I was a monkey
Butane in my veins and I'm out to cut the junkie
With the plastic eyeballs, spray-paint the vegetables
Dog food stalls with the beefcake pantyhose
Kill the headlights and put it in neutral
Stock car flamin' with a loser and the cruise control

5. Headshrinker workin' my flave' try to rearange my psyche try to voodoo
    my child.
Bloodletter fryin' my egg chewin' my leg leechin' off my pain

suckin' my brain.  Big thinker masqueradin' mannequin manipulator

dominator slave trader breakin' me takin' me

Please don't cheat.
If you can't figure them out (and I'm fairly confident you won't get them all) just ask me, and I'll tell you.
Bonus points if you can get all of them.
Again, don't cheat.

The Pros and Cons of Progressive Music

Current mood: bored

Pros:
-great music in general
-wide variety of music (from metal to jazz)
-when your on the computer and your mom tells you to go to bed, you can say "after this song is over" knowing full well that the song is 40 minutes long
-you can spend years connecting one thing to another thing so it all connects into a huge plot to destroy the planet Mars
-no one else listens to it so it's cool
-the stories in concept albums are better than in most movies

Cons:
-can't buy the stuff anywhere
-hard to find sheet music and tabs for it
-knowing that its a 40 minute song could stop you from listening to it, because you know you have to go to bed
-you can waste years connecting one thing to another thing so it all connects into a huge plot to destroy the planet Mars
-no one else listens to it, so you can't hear it on the radio or tv
-the plots in concept albums makes you realise how shitty movies really are

Five albums you should go and buy.

Current mood: cold

1. Great Big Sea - Up
Great Big Sea are a Canadian group that have gained a dedicated fan base for their Celtic Folk-ish songs. They are the best musicians to come out of Newfoundland in a while and definitly worth a listen. From the rapid vocals of traditional Newfoundland song Mari-Mac, to the slow ballad Something To It, right into the protest of The Chemical Workers Song this album is fantastic from start to finish.

2. Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime
It's pronounced 'Queens-rike'  and no, they sound nothing like Queen.  Queensryche, along with Fates Warning and Dream Theater, are one of the three bands that formed what we now call Progressive Metal. this album released in 1989 was a concept album that was based around two main ideas. Brain control, and the goverment. You can put them together i'm sure. For being the first band to really have a protest against the goverment, and for making album that is without a bad track, they have made my list.

3. Tenacious D - Tenacious D
Ahh, now who isnt a fan of Jack Black?  ..well even if you aren't, you should be able to appreciate this album. It's sometimes intelligent and often moronic lyrics will make you laugh the whole 54 minutes through. Some tracks aren't even songs, just 'skits' that focus on one topic and relate to the next song. The actual music on this album suprised me. Theirs no musical genius, and its nothing hard to play or anything, just good simple rock and roll that sounds good.

4. The Flower Kings - Flower Power
Yes, they do seem kind of girly..  but these guys are a progressive rock powerhouse out of Sweden that really mean buisness. the highlight of this album is easily the title track Garden of Dreams, aka the first disc. the song is exactly 59:57 long, and every second of it is amazing, it doesnt get boring.. nor does it get repeditive. its just plain incredible. The second disc is fantastic as well, the songs on it are hard to define with words, not heavy, but not folk, and some are barely considered rock. If you are lucky enough to see this album in your travels to the mall or wherever you buy music, get it. You won't be disapointed.

5. Gorillaz - Demon Days
This may sound familiar to you, it was nominated for best album of 2005 despite having only one big hit, which was the catchy fusion of rap and trance rock, Feel Good Inc. I can't recall why I even bought this album, it just caught my attention I guess. It's definitly a chill out album, nothing really heavy, and no huge ballads. Whenever I hear one song from the album, I want to listen to the whole thing. Its like a spell or something. This CD may not appeal to everyone, it is definitly a developed taste, with creativity at its best.
