"The constellations coalesce in a chilling chorus of ancient chants.
The pulse of the thriving creature is a new rhythm, to which I sing
alone. New sounds and sights before unseen; a new life within reach, I
leave all but you behind. As I’m denied here, I look elsewhere, trying
to find answers and reasons for the feelings I try to disregard and
forget. Grasping for light in a perfect dark, my body slows and my mind
and voice climb. I let my thoughts explore the depths of possibility
and expand past reality. Images and words exchange ideas and I see past
familiar dimensions. My hopes and reservations meld into a shining
river, curving for a distant elegant galaxy. It may be my only way to
you. I board the unreal vessel and wait."

*The Ikalia Odyssey Pt. I*
My reflection, so clear, in the glass
Over remnants of what used to be my home
Destination input unknown
The sand falls quite strangely up here
Far past worlds imagined; my dreams coming true. I’m away.
Is it worth all of this? Did I sacrifice my former life in vain?
With silence, my companion; static, my guide
The luminescent dots mark my view
The flecks of radiance enthrall me
Like the iridescent imperfections in her eyes
I look in the screen and I see them all look back. I’m afraid
I have no one to tell me I’ve got no where to go. I can’t stay.
Desolation expanding; oh, the vast sterility
Cold pastels, blue, and silver radiate beyond me
It’s all fading so far behind
Another world unfolds where fear
Should never take precedence
But what lies in between?
Reminiscing calms my nerves
Though I fear my mind has gotten worse
Not recalling where I’ve been
I’m alarmingly numb to the
Distinction in my mind
Between reality and vibrant dreams
My aged paper wings and glass vines
Disintegrate into the stars
*The Ikalia Odyssey Pt. II*
Celestial bodies
Pulled towards the center
As am I, with incredible speed
Could this anomaly
Be bending light and
Tearing the space surrounding me?
Life and light
Break down and
Ethereal projections emanate
Figures and shadows
Of my life displayed
Across the cosmic screen
As I watch the scene flicker
Familiar, yet foreign, like an old forgotten film
A reenactment of my life
A bizarre feeling creeps under my skin
Alert!
The ship’s unstable
Malfunction
Frantic screech
My likeness
In reflective glass shocks me
The eyes gazing into my soul
Are not my own
A malevolent glare
Wicked twist of lips
I’m going down
*The Ikalia Odyssey Pt. III*
All around me
I feel odd levity
Accompanied by a blazing sea and
Reprisal melody
Communication ceased
I gasp for air, released
Did I make my time in peace?
Hope’s serenity retreats
I have lost my course
But someday I will bring you home
Across the universe to question God’s design
Through lunar pools of grace in time
Memories of your figure dance
Gleaming feathers fall in line
I know I have lost my course
I’ll find you again in time
*It’s Autumn*
"Back in the familiar world, I’m stirred by the dissonance of brazen
bells ringing out of key. I forget, for now, what I have felt and
thought. I abandon the sentiments and impossible dreams of an idealist,
heading back into reality."

--I awaken to the pale light flowing from my window into my dark room.
I make my way slowly, sleepily, striking stark outlines on the empty
slate and shading soothing works with soft pastels. For a brief time
today, there might be illumination. For a moment, a spark may light up
the dark Fall sky.
But what form will it take?
Will it come in the first falling leaves, or in the fresh rain
plummeting from the gathering clouds? Will it come in the comforting
voice of Demeter, timbre whispering of Autumn and harvest, trees
showing colors all across the spectrum? Or will the light come by
Apollo, singing gently in my ear, persuading me to create something of
beauty?
Whatever my muse today, I let my mind drift as I walk. I embrace the
newly forming cold rain and revel in the chill season’s first breaths.--

"Rain falls and gathers slowly on the cars and buildings as I drift
past. The city awakens, slowly rising and growing hungry, feeding on
the nightmares played out in the sleeping minds and the disappointments
of the waking as they realize that their thoughts were only just that:
dreams.
I feel an aspiration come to my lips, fleeting; I ponder. The enduring
thought seems to linger far longer than it should, like the caustic
blue aftertaste of ink and nickel. The feeling seems to overtake logic
as I near the wall lined with elevators, allowing my imagination to run
rampant. The doors glide apart and chime, creating a harmony with the
multitude of songs already playing in my head, each in constant
conflict, creating unique accord that rarely resolves but always fits
with me.
A grin of resignation strikes my lips. It seems almost as in another
dream that I step into the elevator and see the doors close and watch
the lower world disappear."

--I step inside from the rain, a faint smile playing across my lips.
This is my time. I pause for several heartbeats, taking in the room and
adjusting to the temperature change. I head up the stairs along the
main corridor, wet shoes squeaking all the way up. When I reach the
top, I head for where you'll be. As I near the faintly shining doors,
my heart can’t contain it, pumping quickly.
I stand beside the shimmering portal, dreaming again already, against
my better instincts. As the door opens, as always, I search for your
face, my heart splashing paint on the walls of my mind, creating an
abstract piece that I can’t quite yet interpret.--
"I hold out my hands, invisible in the dark of all things that will be
and are far gone. I embrace the flowing stream in my mind that I have
fought all day and disintegrate into the thousand suns. Flowing and
surrounding me, glorious light bursts forth. Struggle between body and
soul, it screams out to hear the lonely echoes again. My trembling
hands scribble words my mouth is afraid to speak and my mind gets ahead
of itself; forgetting where I am. I study the brightest worlds far away
and watch them swirl."

*A Sea of Fragile Light*
I feel the old seasons change
I lie motionless, they bend
Souls reform with the sun
As leaves grow and descend
Hopes, fears rise and ebb
As wings mount snowy skies
In intertwining waves
And lithe flowers bloom in time
My mind trapped in a prison
Hands free, but body slow
Seasons shift in fluid motion
As the stellar pools still flow
Intangible dreams and years
In the silent starry sea, pulling me in
Blend and pervade
Time, an ocean, drawing me down
I cannot escape, just
Still-life in progressing tide
The pressure cracking walls
I must leave body behind
Fantastic scenes, a lucid dream
A fall through ethereal skies
My hand has been guided
By a set of ancient rhymes
A verse and chorus harmony
Encircled by gentle sounds
Old papers and fresh works
Force the great walls down
Free now across the white, lined skies
The waves of ink, with speed
Scribbled stories deep in valleys
Over mountains, minds release
On shoulders of paper giants
Their ringing voices drive me up
Vast stars, my god, those blue stained hands
Brief era of creation
I am God with pen in hand
Craft words to fit my fickle soul
God is dead with pen in head
Thoughts drip from specter, lifeless skull
The lyrics unfold a clarity
As I grasp for words or substantial ground
A path defined, by blood, in line
In blinding, infinite, surreal sound
*A Unified Theory*
I never knew that it would be so stunning
Elegant in its simplicity
Alluring in its relative harmonic pace
I never knew the end would be so singular
Empty, but not sterile
A celestial equilibrium, singing
Atoms and the stars align
The planets and beasts, one
A human scion fused to a living universe
All act as one, into and out of existence
The smallest of things, here and gone
Creating a bending plane
The harmony still rings, my mind interpreting
The meaning below
I look down upon ringing nebulous clouds and see the light
"I stand in an elevator, looking at the pale light above. Gentle music
calming, the piano playing predictably in time. A sweet simple melody
soothes my ears. It is comforting in its familiar conformity. As I near
the top, it slows and comes to a gentle stop. My mind drifting and
wondering what is ahead, balancing perfectly on an invisible edge, thin
as wire. The sliding doors open to reveal a loud, sprawling landscape.
As always, I search for your face, my heart keeping time; tempo and
dynamic swelling and receding like the shore. Perhaps this time"

*Wet Paint*
I am still wandering the halls of this museum wing of all your works
My eyes cut through the crowd
My heart skips several beats as our lips part in grins and we meet
Very brief, a cinematic scene
Legato brush strokes deftly crafting laughs in watercolors
Blue and green soaking up your day
I notice the color’s wet on face on which you draw a smile, but the eyes are perfect
Reflections of your heart
I’ll fill your easel with my favorites shades of you and you will resonate
On a chord I’ve yet to learn
You feel you’re dry on ink and out of plans and color schemes
But I’ve got a guitar, a story, and a pen
Let’s make our lives a masterpiece, the most beautiful they’ve ever seen
We won’t restore; these colors will not fade
We’ll paint our love in rich pastels, our skin against our paper selves, we’ll melt away
Into our colored world
Let’s sail across the sea with woven, canvas sails to see how far we go
Before we reach the sun
In the far corner we will sign, from favorite songs, a scribbled line or verse
And we won't leave a date
I’ll let the music flow to the painting of your soul, and I feel my smile grow, as though I never will again
Our lives sketched on a board, a romantic epic for the skies and leaves and shores, reminding me of trends
And patterns in my score, where all my songs explore the feelings in my core at night when my mind lends
My dreams, to tell a truth I can’t ignore
*Co-workers*
The time has come to leave here
Though I would have stayed
I’ve a path to follow home
I will be back tomorrow
To pretend again
That I don't want to be here
I have made my choice in life
Of all the outcomes
Of all I will wish and dread
Listen, stunning melody
From the hallowed halls
Of past and potential lives
We may not know our future
Though spent days flow by
We carry on, regardless
Eternally following
Lustrous winding paths
Hoping for a luminous end
*Elysian Reflections*
Across the stretch of expanding space,
Are you still here with me?
It may seem like a long time now, but
I’ll be back before you’re gone
Transmission lost as your voice fades
Do you still remember when?
In the end of all as monoliths fall
We will transcend
Don’t let them see you cry, girl.
The whole world is watching.
We can’t let them down, no.
Don’t let my words in your heart fade as
I slowly drift away
To my own time.
In this brief reprise from a busy, painted life
Of chasing ghosts of those that I once loved
Though my eyes are slowly fading and my body's quickly aging
I hope you’re still here with me
