Well, seeing as this is my first blog, I thought I'd just commemmorate by adding in my sweep picking in the Playing Skills section, fill in the rest of my personal info and then talk about the last few days.

Shortly after my guitar lesson last Wednesday, I broke out in spots. I thought they could have been flea bites at first, but there was no denying that it was chicken pox. And since most people (90%) contract it before they are twelve, that makes me special. Also, since I am legally an adult and adults are at risk of developing serious complications as a result of chicken pox, I was little bit worried. But now, since I've had it (Thursday morning), it's been over a week and they've mostly scabbed over. Other than the minor fever-like symptoms, it wasn't that bad. The first 3-4 days are itchy, and you get a mild-headache all the time, fatigue and general weakness.

What was good about these days though? Well, first of all I got the chance to listen to some music that's been on the back burner of my mind for a while now..

Honorable mentions go out to:

Psycroptic's Scepter of the Ancients. I heard the full album and it's fantastic. Chalky's vocals give a dry feeling to the music, which is rare when most bands try to get more vibrant production (see Wintersun's s/t).

Borknagar's The Olden Domain. I had no idea this gem existed. It's sort of rekindled my passion with black metal.

Cannibal Corpse's The Wretched Spawn. I finally hear this album in its entireity and not just Frantic Disembowelment. Good to hear the technical side of CC and now I can appreciate Corpsegrinder's work.

Edge of Sanity's Crimson/Crimson 2. These are becoming a staple on my playing list. The fact that I had never heard either is mind-boggling. Kudos to Dan Swano for having the determination to compose and play these classics.

Immolation's Shadows in the Light. Immolation are another rare gem in the death metal world, not shying away from the dissonance in any way, shape or form. It's solid, fun death metal.
