Five days ago at 12:15 in the morning my phone rang. This was about three weeks after I had received a call from the same caller. The first call was the drummer from the band Northshore, my best friend,Tom Davis, calling to inform me that our mutual best friend Dave Howland had entered the hospital for emergency surgery for a ruptured hernia which extended to his bowel. Tom told me to be in prayer for Dave. Dave had gone through the same surgery for another hernia about this same time last year. He was in the hospital for a month that time and another 3 months recuperating at home. In any case Dave came through the surgery but when he woke up he freaked out and tried to pull out all the tubes and such. He was on a respirator. They had to put him into a drug induced coma for the remainder of his recovery in ICU. During that time none of his friends could visit or communicate with him in any way. It was really tough on us all. His band "McKraken" wanted to go over there too but were prohibited. On October 4th we heard that he was going to receive a tracheotomy to have a breathing tube inserted through his neck/throat so that they could take him off the ventilator and allow him to come out of the drug induced coma. His brother, a doctor himself, told us in the call that everything was going well and he expected a full recovery after a few months of healing and recuperation. On October 6th at about 11:15 PM while being moved the breathing tube fell out and went unnoticed for 15 minutes. My brother Dave suffocated and died. It was a senseless death and one that should have been avoided with very little effort. Dave was just getting restarted on his music and had several projects in the works. He was anxious to get home from his job downstate and get them moving. He was playing lead guitar in the cover band "McKraken" with several friends including me. He was also working on an originals project through "Adams Apple" again with me. His Green Frog Productions studio was on the line to produce several works from our friends Tom Davis, Curt Bur and Jimmy Brown.... I'm going to miss him greatly...probably more as time goes on...Godspeed brother ..............
