Wreathed in autumnal splendor
Monuments to the Fall
Memorial unto the dying sigh
The sigh of better days left behind

Bereft, beneath leaden skies
At the heart of the solstice

Clouds in their heavenly columns
To brace the temple of the day

There the monuments stood
Leafless, lifeless
Adorned in breathless air

I watched the leaves fall

In the half-light of a false dawn
