Marskell wrote on Nov 21st, 2008 7:59amhey dude, you much of a fan of doom?
i'd like your advice on what to do next with my new song quote |
MHDrunk wrote on Nov 12th, 2008 5:29amWitch Tomb sound a lot like Profanatica, but with a better guitar sound (imo). With Demoncy, you'd also like Within the Realms... but I wouldn't recommend their post JiD works, a completely different style (Norwegian style, not done very well). You can hear some Demoncy influence in most of this 'bestial black metal' stuff going around today, especially Unholy Crucifix and Befoul. Possibly Nuclear Desecration too - they've been more Blasphemy influenced but if their latest tracks (from the split with Profanatica/UC/Goatsodomy) are anything to go by, they've taken a more Profanatica/Demoncy influenced direction. But the main guy in ND is younger than me and tends to go through musical phases, so who knows.
Anyway, I could probably have done better a few months ago : I'm not really listening to much black metal lately. Von is another band you should hear if you havent already, but try and stay away from Von rip-offs like Veinen because they are never anywhere near as good haha quote |
MHDrunk wrote on Nov 12th, 2008 5:29amProfanatica's latest is actually their worst, you should have a look at Enemy of Virtue as that has all essential material on it, and will be a good listen (not all of it, but most). 'Dethrone the Son of God' - Havohej's full length album was orginally meant to be a Profanatica album and I forgot the reason it got released under Havohej. It's a good showcasing of early Profanatica, but other than that, Havohej is just some boring and poorly done 'black ambient' : quote |

Stuff like Explosions In The Sky, God Is In Astronaut, etc. I want to try my own style of mixing folk, post-rock, and black metal without copying Agalloch lol. That's what I'm trying to aim for now.
By the way, that piano song of yours was brilliant. |
Interlude? yeah i did my folk demo in a MASSIVE agalloch phase, ive decided to make my folk project "Soul Solitude" a solo project, and i am working on more songs as i type, tis hard writing and making them flow and not sound forced. i showed magero your "and the dying sigh of summer" or whatever and he LOVED IT hahahaha
more proof that you sir are win!

No problem.
Pretty much. I've only written about two or so songs that weren't. But most of them (all the 15 or so) have a prominent folk influence. I've been leaning towards a lot of post-rock influence lately though. |
what kind of post rock? like the ocean's Precambian disc 2 paleprotozoic?
or Porcupine tree?

Excellent, I'll be looking forward to hearing your stuff. If you can get some recording equipment that'd be sweet. Who knows, maybe we could do a split lol. I dunno when I'll get any equipment stuff, all I can guarantee is probably within a couple of months. I hope to have a demo or something like it done by Christmas.
College is going pretty well, I've aced all my exams so far (score!). |
haha if we do a split, we have to make sure its a limited edition picture disk vinyl with only a few hundred copies ever produced (damn you Agalloch...)
i just need to figure out how to record all the symphonic elements
Equilibrium hired professional folk musicians (Karlahan) and spent like a month in the studio recording their parts...
i'll probably end up just using a keyboard lol
and thats cool, where do you go to school?

Hey dude,
I've recently been listening to Nokturnal Mortum's Lunar Poetry a lot, and I love it to death. How is Goat Horns, style - and - quality-wise? | Better production, more keyboards, and less solos. Still good, but Lunar Poetry is still a clear better album.

Howdy.
As one BM fan to another, have you found any new bands worth checking out? I have a perpetual thirst for BM, it seems. These days it's probably my favorite genre.
If you know any worth mentioning, send some names my way! |

^^This band kicks tremendous amounts of ass.
Also, go on Bunalti and download Zuriaake. Their album and split with Ynzigarm. Both of them are good atmospheric black metal from Mainland China.
And, if you start running low on black metal, download random crap from h ere (I'll warn you the 2008 albums section is loaded with an incredible amount of links to album downloads and could take over 15 minutes to load with pictures on), h ere, or here.

Hey,
Falls of Rauros have a new album out, and by the song on their myspace it looks to be a hell of an album. Quality American Folk Metal. I'm gonna dl the album soon, I don't believe it will disappoint. | Thanks for the heads up, man.
