This morning, I went to church. The church, which I go to on a regular basis, is supposedly a "relaxed, refreshing, and uplifting service," aka, the message without the ceremony. They use powerpoints/videos, and you're encouraged to dress however, like it's no big deal. I'm alright with all that, and the pastor is a pretty cool guy (surprisingly), but the music is undoubtably one of the most irritating things I've ever heard. Hearing "You are good. You are good." (x18) gave me the worst headache I've had in a while. It might be better if the lyrics were somewhat deep/thought-provoking, but they aren't. Every song has the most transparent, obvious, and predictable lyrics.
And the music. The music. The music sounds like it's made in Fruity Loops. [insert generic drum beat] [insert clean/chorus guitar/piano chords] [insert female voice]. Somehow, people manage to get into it, and start waving their hands and all that. I take it back. Contemporary Christian music does make you think...about other people.
I've realized that if their music didn't have Jesus, God, love, hope, redemption, etc. in it, they wouldn't sell a single cd.
Contemporary Christian music = Pop = Marketing Scheme.
