I'm a bass player but, I would have to say the Fender Stratocaster. It's lighter (if you care about weight) than any les paul, and in my opinion, it just has a great sound... quote

Depends what sort of stuff you play and what sound you like. Your Ibanez is a Les Paulish type copy, the fact that it's old will probably only improve it ,as long as it's properly setup. All Les Pauls are heavy to wear compared with a Strat, and will have a much thicker sound with more sustain - ideal for rock. However, in my experiance ( about 30 years ) the Strat is a far better all round workhorse and will respond a lot better to your personal playing style, especialy if you learn to attack it and " dig in" . quote

I'd go for the strat.
The Gibson's don't offer much value for money, but if you want a Les Paul model look into the Epiphone Elitist series.
They may not have the big name on the headstock, but they are better than lower end Gibson's like the Studio. quote

Personally I'd go for either the Strat or the Les Paul Studio. Both great guitars, tho It really depends on your needs/preferences. But definitely something with 2 or more pickups. It'll be a versatile guitar with tons of tonal possibilties & plenty of room to experiment with different tones/sounds. quote

my friend has a les paul studio and i love the way it sounds compared to strats, but strats are lighter and go for a differant sound then the les paul studio, so really its down to personal preference but gibson les paul studios can be outragously expensive. quote

look, everyone uses the tele, so dont get one (the enemy ruined it) so no one uses strats, whilst gibson les pauls are slowly turning into the nike of guitar, basically chavs are now using them. n that ruins it, like what happened to converses. i got an epi les paul standard n its brilliant, but bit too used at the moment. y not get something different? it looks like u could afford a rickenbacker, or something, search the music shops for something u really love. quote

i say stay away from that strat you have picked out there. it doesnt have humbuckers or anything not very versatile, my squire fat strat sounds better. id go with the studio cause it is way more versatile, you can play way more stuff with it and in the long run you wil be more happy. quote

Yo, I saw this blog on the Top Blogs on the community page.
Looking at your tastes The Les Paul is probably the obvious choice. It's going to give you a fatter sound that's better for rock.
However, you could probably buy the Strat and have a Hot Rails stacked humbucker put in the bridge for the same price as the Les Paul.
It's just personal taste, but I really like the sound of a single coil pick-up in the neck and a humbucker in the bridge.
Stay away from artist models, you're paying for the name rather than the guitar. Also, single pickup guitars really grind my gears.
In conclusion I've just noticed that this blog is ancient
Need any other advice just ask. quote

The billy joe guitar is just plain ugly IMO. As for the other two, it all comes down to the sound you prefer, and your budget, as the les paul will definitely be more expensive than the strat. quote

well you posted this blog quite a while ago but im gona give my input anway. The les paul has a really warm sound to it and nice action and loose strings. easier to bend and stuff. prolly the highest quality. The strat has the most dynamic range of available tones though. With three single coil pickups and a 5 way switch with two tone knobs you can get a million sounds out of it. plus the strat tone is nasty (in a good way). i dont know anything bout the billie joe guitar though. i like his sounds n stuf but its definitlye the least dynamic and prolly not the best idea for the money. quote
