A while after you
have started playing guitar, you might get this feeling: "Heck, I want to
write something on my own". This might occur no matter whether you sing as
you play or not, there is something special about playing your own creations. I
got that feeling a couple of days ago, and felt that I had a library of chords
large enough and the will, stubbornness and imagination that it really takes. I
have written lyrics before, but never with accompanying chords. The current
state of the song is the following:
Em C G A I left the capital behind me, on my brand new set of wheels Em A C Threw the map out of the window, to follow the breeze Em C G A I was travelling 'cross the nation, with none there but me Em A C To learn who I am and who I want to be
Em C G A I ran straight across the country, from the mountains to the sea Em A C Searching for that feeling, feeling free Em C G A But living on the edge of things, isn't what it seems to be Em A C Ain't no hundred miles long enough for me
A work in progress, naturally... Still two verses to be added, and I am unsure about the chords in some places, but hopefully I'll be on my way towards a complete song that I can feel satisfied with in the evening.
Besides working on my own stuff, I have worked a lot on others - Beth with KISS, a lot of old Elvis-stuff (that fellow sure knew what he was doing) as well as some other songs from the rockabilly-era.
